AFAIK: The only way to get HiRes music into the PCM is via lossless audio files (i.e. FLAC) directly from a USB storage device.

What makes you think you can't stream hi-res files from Tidal or Qobuz from your phone via wire into the USB-c input?

Unfortunately, I have never used such USB drives. However, there are several rules regarding data storage that I follow. I try to create as many copies as possible. I keep in cloud storage and the other on my hard drive. Thus, I insure myself with a few spare copies. My hard drive broke down last week and I had to make a raid data recovery. Btw, I would advise you to choose the largest storage amount. This way you won’t use data compression or encryption. Otherwise, the files may be damaged.
