Out of warranty - transmission issue

I got a transmission error and engine failure warning and the car stop on a hwy. I was able to restart and drive to the dealer but I was not able to reverse the car. First they told me it’s rear axle differential and break issue and it will cost me $30k to fix as I’m out of warranty now that the car has 100k km but still only 3 years old. When we argued to give more details about the transmission issue, they did additional inspections and said that its not the issue with rear axle or break now and it’s the issue internally with gear etc and we need to change the transmission which will still cost me about $20k. They refused to remove the transmission and perform full inspection as it will take 20hrs for them so they simply said I need to change the transmission. Since they them self don’t know what they’re looking at I am not confident about their analysis and since I don’t have warranty, I’m having a panic attack. Any suggestions and advice is appreciated.

My guess it’s more software than hardware. A bad sensor or a reboot needed…

Is there another dealership close by you can try? Don't let them know how desperate you are. Bring it in and ask them to look at it and leave it at that. Let us know what they say!

These are the issues that led me to do a 39-month lease on a 2025. Your best to pivot to a 2nd and even a 3rd dealer if you have to. It may be a simple software upgrade.
