perfect this should make the car charge to 80% in home and work and 70% elsewhere.. do you have any time profiles as well?
Nope, no other profiles. But as I said timers are not working at all, while the should charge up-to 80% works... somewhat. One time it did not work for sure.

Nope, we are under almost complete lockdown here due to COVID-19. OTA updates would have been nice now...

I am a bit confused by the advice here.

I have not been able to collect my car due to the lockdown, so I have no practical experience.

I would have thought that you set the the app or the car to have a minimum charge level say 50%. The car would then charge up to this level once you plugged it in and independent of what other profiles you have set. That is how I understand the minimum level.

I would then look in the car to see at what level it is set to charge either by time or departure time. I would make sure that level is set at 80 to 85 % . I have obviously no idea on wether this is doable in the app.

Setting the max charge level in the car is what the Porsche specialist did in the car that I have ordered. It is at present standing in the showroom, but the dealer is closed since two weeks. So no way of me collecting the car until earliest April 15.

Please also read @louv contribution on post number two in this thread. Seems aligned with my understanding.?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think there's a way to limit the charging from inside the car at all. The only way I have found out so far, besides getting the plug out obviously, is to create a location based profile and limit it there. In the app the limit is described as "minimum charge level" but I do believe Porsche means top level to which you'd like to charge.

Tesla's way of doing this is so much simpler to be honest....

You obviously have the benefit of being able to try it on your car.

I am just referring to my wish to the Porsche technician to reduce the charge level in my car to 85%. While I sat in 5he car he came and went into the car menu and limited the charge to 85%. It Looked very easy and was quick to do, but I have no confirmation now that it stayed that way?

He found charge levels in the menu on the main screen in the car and could adjust it. Maybe somebody else can find that and document it?

Here is what Is said in the Good to know app. There it seems you should be able to set the maximum charge level !

Care instructions for the high-voltage battery
Car Care

Instructions for charging the high-voltage battery
  • Ensure that the temperature of the vehicle is between approx. –20 °C and +30 °C during the charging process.
  • If possible, begin charging the high-voltage battery via the Charging Planner and use the Timer or Profile function to charge the battery with alternating current (AC).
  • Use the Timer or Profile function to program a maximum high-voltage battery charge of 85 % for daily use of the vehicle without any long-distance driving.
  • If required, a battery charge of 100 % can be programmed before starting long journeys.
  • At ambient temperatures of over 30 °C, connect the vehicle to the mains and charge the high-voltage battery with alternating current (AC). Use the Timer or Profile function.
  • At ambient temperatures of over 35 °C, avoid using "Range" drive mode immediately after charging with in excess of 150 kW direct current (DC) in order to maximise cooling of the high-voltage battery.

So you shouldn’t use a DC fast charger if the ambient temp is over 30c (86f)? That could be a problem for people who live in hot areas.

@Dave T , no I think there is no problem to charge at a fast charger with ambient temperature above 30 degrees C! I think the battery actually chargers quickest at 30 to 35 degrees temperature in the battery, Ron_b had a chart showing best temp and charge level for fast charging.

If you refer to the text from the Good to know app then I think that is advise to plug the car in so that the battery will be kept at suitable temperature without draining any power. Power will come from the grid. At least that is my interpretation.

I’m just going by what it says above in the good to know app. It says to charge the vehicle below 30c, and to use AC charging above 30c.

The car will attempt to cool the battery pack using the AIr Conditioning (battery conditioning).

They suggest not driving in “Range” mode after DC charging in high ambient temperatures because Range mode has reduced cooling capacity to get the battery back down to an appropriate temperature.
