What is the point of the extended warranty and fear of breaking parts when we all have insurance.

Insurance is for damages warranty is for technical brake downs.

Here in US of A, insurance largely works spectacularly until you need to make a claim, at which point you get to chat with adjusters for a bit while they decide whether to drop you or simply triple your premiums.

Break down with a cause / damage is an insurance case and sudden break down is not a decent product, and we as EU citizens are protected by law that we can expect decent products. In the netherlands we call it “wettelijke garantie”. Based on price, brand/make, product category etc it’s determined what decent is. You can proof something is not decent by showing threads on this forum with others having the same issue etc

Thanks, i am not so educated on this.

In my case (as far as I know) my insurance is only for damages (crash, fire, ice, stone on the screen etc. but not war) and my Porsche warranty is limited for 2 years.
Maybe I can start a fight according to your words, but afraid if -for example my air suspension become wrong and have no extended warranty that will be my cost.

On the other hand if my sunroof cracks that is a damage that will be covered by my insurance.

Otherwise how Porsche could sell any extended warranty.

look around at how many early Toyota Prius are still on the road.

Indeed, our first Prius is still going strong at 19 years old on its original traction battery. My daughter uses it daily.

The reliability is my biggest disappointment and concern, and I've only owned a Taycan for a few months. Out of that, the Porsche has been at the dealer for over a month. First there was a battery recall (APB5) and on top of that there were 7 other recalls, including replacing the heater, something with the AC etc etc. About a month ago the 22kw charger failed, which is now replaced as well.

It is just annoying that on top of the massive depreciation month on month, we also have to pay 3k for additional warranty every 2 years. Compared to the BMW i4 M50 I had for 2 years, I had 0 issues and barely any battery deg.

On the bright side, if Porsche keeps up replacing everything, i should have a new Taycan around this time next year....

Well I am on the opposite. My I4 needed a tow when it was 1 week old and in service for a week, charging unit exchange.
Additionally all my Taycan recalls have been done in 2-3 hours including heater exchange. It is an organisation issue not to sit cars for weeks with couple of hours service.

Taking the infos from TF maybe I am the only one Taycan owner who did not extend the basic (2-year in EU) warranty.

The battery is under a regular 8-year/180k km warranty still, without any extension. Recall repairs are also covered by Porsche independently from warranty.
Annual warranty extension with the local taxes is EUR2,5k.

It is a risk but the most expensive part (battery) is still covered.
Maybe the saved annual EUR2,5k will cover the coming repairs, so I decided not to buy a 'repair cost' in advance.

My car just become 2-year old (produced 06.2022) with 40k km.
Had only one issue under this time, a charging door failure (mechanical one).
No rattles or any issue, my most reliable car up to now, incl. my ex 911 991.2.

We will see....

Besides, what else to buy? Porsche almost gave up on EVs. The new Macan is 2 years late, overpriced and otherwise underwhelming. Last week asked the guy in the showroom, if I can have a look. They get it in 2 months. Unreal! Where is the electric Cayenne and 911?

Yesterday in the Audi Shop. The space is ready and 2 Audi Q6 Etron in the basement, but is not allowed to put them into the showroom.

In Germany I drive a EQA 250+, which I'll trade up this summer to a EQS SUV 580, 1 year old... Need better seats. Next on the list might be this one, but not in Germany!

Yes, my Taycan was in the shop last year for a battery module failure. Took them over 2 months to fix it. Was so frustrated not having a proper EV, went out and bought a Zeekr 001 with 140kWh.

Then went back to the Porsche dealer and asked for compensation due to depreciation. Got a 1 year free warrenty extension. At the end of that extenstion the AC charger broke, got it fixed last month. Took them "only" a week this time, otherwise...

And if I remember correctly (reported on here) the gear shift/clunk is more noticeable in the RWD with just the one motor than the other models.

Our 2020 Turbo S clunks when shifting up or down in SPORT or SPORT+ but shifts smoothly in NORMAL. The hard shift may be intentional to minimize slipping with more aggressive driving.

Don't know, also not interested. This EV is quite cheap and when I look at the tech, there is nothing fancy. The “excellent” sync inside the car with XiaoMi smart phones, is not something I relish in a car. The real problem is the front, which looks way too much like T junk. Total no go!

Zeekr 001: Great ride, the interior feel is better than a BMW and way better than my EQA. It also sits super solid on the road. The huge 140kWh battery is an absolute marvel, a gamechanger.

The automated driving assist and the other hand is garbage! Ridiculous fiddly touch buttons on the steering wheel makes it so hard to use. On top of it, when you set a speed (i.e. 120 km/h) it holds the speed so precisely, that the car constantly accelerates and brakes due to ever so slightly uneven roads. You get carsick! I cannot fathom, how they could develop the system like this. Have they ever tested it? Is there a single engineer at Geely, who actually has a driving license? The worst thing: The refresh model is out with a new steering wheel, and I doubt that they will bother to improve the software for the older model.
