I wish I had read that post about the neodyme messing up the compass before.

It really is illegible as soon as it gets a little dark.
I turned off the clock to have a degrees heading instead. At least some compass information at night available...
And you have a cough at the dash and in the infotainment anyway.

As written before, I think the compass as Sport Chrono Clock makes more sense in a CT as it fits the concept better than the seconds-counter.

Porsche could not guarantee that a swap would definitely work.
I didn't want to spend the 960 € on the part and get stuck with it, as I could not give it back afterwards.

I searched the internet for quite some time and indeed found a compass on Ebay and gave it a go.

Result: I am happy!

Porsche installed the compass and it works fine.
So a retrofit is possible and my Taycan is perfect now.

Wasn’t aware this was even an option. Don’t think it actually was in Switzerland when my car was speced

Any pictures with how it turned out?

There were a number of reasons I chose a CT4S over a ST GTS and the compass was one of them :)

Please provide some details of this retrofit. Can you confirm whether any coding or programming was needed to get it to work?

Just as an aside, a compass is one of the customizable options on the right circle in the center dash display with the battery charge level, battery temp, etc. I have it set and like it a lot.

This is true but I wanted Sport Chrono and the clock is available on the dash too so in the end I just preferred the look of the compass in the little binnacle to the clock :)

I used the compass in the right tube all the way. But it is just not the same.

I love the Sports Chrono package, but realistically I'm not using the "additional instrument" on the dash as Chrono at all. So effectively, it's not even an analog clock, but a digital clock with an analog second hand, and I see at least two more digital clocks in the car already.

A compass on the other hand would be super useful (and fun).

I don't see it as part of Tequipment, so I don't think it's supposed to be a retrofit. But if my guess it's correct, it's just taking the GPS data from the CAN bus, so should probably work regardless.

Has anyone swapped the Sports Chrono Instrument for a compass?
Planning on doing the exact opposite and junking the compass for the Porsche Design clock. It does seem to be possible from what I've read. No settings needed, it just reads the apprpriate data from the CAN bus.

Completely agree, the second hand timer does seem to be a completely useless device!!

I curious whether it's a simple plug into harness or whether you have to splice the wiring. I'm debating on trying this.
It's a simple plug.

Please confirm :
- whether the dealer programmed or coded the car
- which compass did you buy? Was it originally from a Taycan or a Cayenne?

Question, where did you read that the reverse has worked? Do you know if a Cayenne part from the same generation would work in your situation?

So here a few pics.

I have the Taycan compass.
No further info, whether a Cayenne or Panamera would fit.

The swap itself is super easy, The clock is released/ fitted with a 1/4 turn from the backside.
Connection is made with a small plug.

I am waiting for an answer concerning programming needed or not.

Can anybody with compass installed confirm the following:
In the PCM menu, it is referred to as "clock", not compass.

The design clock looks nice.
Would have opted for that in an ST.
