Excellent point.

My view is that the battery will easily keep its capacity above 70%, but the only way it fails if there are battery module or other battery components that fail such as the cooling system.

Also, who is going to sort all this out when a used Taycan reaches that 8yr/100k that even now the used examples at my dealer are impacted since the dealer cannot tell what is the battery health (SoH) as they do not want to spend time/labor for the all day procedure to get the reading. Then buyers are not comfortable buying them even they are not old and CPO. Macan EV now added SoH tab with a trend graph I understand.
Warranty conditions have changed recently (less than a year ago). They did not include battery until just recently. However, I agree with you. Warranty does not cover wear and tear, including wear and tear for HV battery. This leaves room for confusion, but at least it's a step in the right direction.

That’s a great find. :clap: I assume the CPO warranty is considered the same as the “Porsche Approved Warranty.”

"The Porsche Approved Warranty covers technical defects in all parts of the following components: engine | fuel and cooling system | drivetrain and transmission | suspension and steering | braking system | heating and air conditioning | electrical system | bodywork | xenon and LED lights | high-voltage battery."
https://www.porsche.com/internation...eservice/vehicleinformation/approvedwarranty/

8y warranty is for the capacity, but extended warranty does cover battery defects.

Good to know. I would ask OP to quote this with the local dealer.
The biggest cost that will always be going up is labor, but parts like cells and batteries should decline in cost. Now, J1.1 batteries no longer available, so J1.2 batteries are the replacement part, and I assume that would apply to individual cells as it appears they can be mixed, but not for sure.
I think we may be living in a kind of maintenance bubble here in the US. Take a look at “OGS & Mechanics” on YT. He’s in London, and it appears business is booming. The latest 2 of his many videos feature analysis and repair of a Taycan. It is not a battery replacement, but you can see that type of activity for other manufacturers. Here in the US, we also have lone wolf Alex in “Out of Spec Renew”. So once we have more shops like that of George In OGS, I think dispose-at-8-years angst may abate somewhat. If used and new batteries become available, the shops will come along, like baseball (cinema reference 😊). Steve

Guys, there's a common misconception about what the high-voltage (HV) battery warranty actually covers. For mostEVs on the market today, the standard warranty states: "8 years/100,000 miles that the battery retains at least 70% capacity." This does not imply a full, unconditional replacement warranty on the battery itself.

This leads to my reasonable conclusion: When an approved warranty extends beyond 8 years, the HV battery remains covered—not to guarantee >70% capacity retention, but to address outright failures (e.g., faulty modules or total battery failure).

Example 1 (2020 Taycan with warranty extended to 2031): In 2030, the battery capacity drops to 69%, but no modules have failed and the battery functions otherwise as it should. Could the owner demand Porsche replace modules (or the entire pack) to restore >70% capacity? Highly unlikely despite valid approved warranty extension—the warranty never promised perpetual 70% retention post-8 years;

Example 2 (same Taycan): In 2030, a single module fails despite 85% overall capacity retention. Here, Porsche should replace the faulty module free of charge under the extended warranty—otherwise, including the HV battery in extensions would be meaningless.

To clarify: These are my interpretations reading between the lines; I have not verified this with Porsche or official sources. If anyone has reliable information from porsche about the above, they are welcome to clarify.

There is no misconception. Faults are covered by warranty. Wear and tear is not. Same as brake pads or refrigerants or filters, etc. They degrade by time, but they should not fail. It's a standard Porsche warranty. HV battery until 2025 was *not* covered by extented warranty at all. That has changed.

As long as you buy Porsche Approved Warranty; every year or multiyear packages.

I hope that we'll see independent shops (like the video below) who can work all this out. It seems like a whole bunch of labor, but the Taycan battery is modular so maybe there will be a market for this stuff.

It’s great that a company like OGS will apply some theory knowledge and fix items rather replace whole assemblies. Their work also reveals the poor manufacturing and safety design - e.g. unlike Tesla, no monitoring of HV battery coolant temperature and pressure.
