Hi Folks - Anyone know where I can get an independent Battery SoH check done in the NW-UK? (Warrington ish) - (not an OPC).

I was also considering getting a Taycan compatible OBD dongle..... Would using cause warranty issues? Which one to get? Which APP to use?

Any guidance appreciated…

Cheers

This is covered in extensive detail on the forum.

Quick Answers: OBD to buy is below that works with free CarScanner App. No warranty issues as it is read only device. I will defer to our UK members to advise on your other questions.

Thanks SergeyIndy - I was not sure if the rules (or available OBDs) were different in UK - so very helpful - cheers

I'm using the OBDLinkMX+ dongle successfully with Car Scanner App with my iPhone to read my battery cell voltages.

Update FWIW

Vgate MC+ dongle and Samsung android phone tried....

Eventually I got them to talk to each other - the MC+ dongle would not update firmware - kept getting a message it has a bug and it would shut down when I tried on its own APP....

Car scanner menus were pants - had no 'back option' would just go to the main menu each time... Any values offered were almost impossible to read - with a mix of empty fields and other values with measured values overwriting the titles for the fields ....so it just looked like gobbledegook and I could not read it.

Tried deleting and reinstalling apps - restarting phone - witching car off and on and locking it - unplugging and refitting dongle - I could not get back to the original main menu - which had contained no values when first seen...

But by pure fluke, by paging through options one by one, I eventually landed on the SoH figure - 93.59% .. which was one of the few values that were readable...

Reasonably happy with that SoH value after 26 months and 18K miles.

I could not get a map of individual cell V values to check balance across the battery pack... Or much else of use for that matter.

Anyways, I will persevere when I can be bothered to try again, and do research on CarScanner to understand navigation better (not intuitive) -

But..... If I can't stop the visuals from presenting unreadable overwritten text; and, I suspect, that if I also can't update the dongle firmware (which the packaging says I must do before using in anger), then this dongle/app combo is not going to be of much use, except a periodic SoH check.

Cheers

I think you may be not navigating to the right screens.

CarScanner App: after you plug in the OBD, power the car, open App, then make sure to select eTron/Taycan profile first. Then after you connect, go to Dashboard, which is where all the screens are.

Please try again and post some screens. SoH of 93.59% at 18k miles is really good but does not give you the full data set needed to assess battery cell health. You need to get to Cell Voltages and SoC charts and then capture some screens with Battery Energy values.

Thanks S - Yes I already loaded the Taycan Profile as a first step (it forces you to select am profile before you can access it) - and I started with the Dashboard - and it was fine on first click - but all fields unpopulated - so I selected one of the fields hopping to drill down a bit - and then it would not go back to the dashboard screen only the first start-up menu and when clicking on the dashboard again there - it would only go to the previous screen that I had randomly selected from the dashboard .... not to the dashboard itself - either swiping or clicking the 'back arrow - just sent me to the start-up main menu

Anyways, it may be a few days before I can try again - but I will try to post images when I can..

cheers and thanks for the help/hints

I cannot tell if your Taycan is a MY25 in this case there is no full support for it yet. However, anything that is J1.1 is fully supported MY20-MY24 to read out all values in the Dashboard view. The scrolling a bit odd, I agree, I have to tap in the middle to bring up nav bar at the top to flip through pages of the Dashboard.

Thanks S - it's MY23 - yes it could be me not having enough time to understand navigation foibles.... Have contacted Vgate tech support about the 'apparent' bug and inability to update firmware - will try again in a few days - Thanks Again, much appreciated

Frankly speaking Carscanner is really poor designed in terms of UX. I found eFlow in appstore (not sure if it supports android): design is much better. I guess it’s developed by the same guys as bimmercode and bimmerlink, which are top apps for bmw. Here are some screens for my 30k km Taycan

Thanks Nord - that looks Brill - - will try it as soon as I get chance :)

Looks like eFlow is not available for Android - I have loaded a version on my Mac-book (not sure it will work) ... Will try that at some point. cheers
