Bose was causing additional delay when I fixed my spec so I dropped it (it was delayed anyway though).
I was concerned because I am a music lover who listens to music a lot at home on a system costing more than the Taycan but the standard system is fine in terms of even frequency response and low colouration IME.
Less boomy and chesty than many car systems I’ve heard.

It doesn’t have any DSP surround effects though, so the stereo is pretty like most cars with multiple speaker drive units at widely different distances from the listener.

Thanks for your reply, i had a Audi standard A6 without sound system upgraded, and it was not great, hope Porsche standard sound system is slightly better, as i do enjoy music in the car.

I ordered in March 23 and while I have opted not to upgrade the stereo both options were available and not restricted so if you haven’t locked your spec yet they should be available when you do.

I actually got to test a GTS with the standard system and it's nowhere near the Bose. The Bose or better still Burmester, is now a must on any car I spec in the future. Wouldn't buy a Taycan with the base system and anyone saying it's no worst than the Bose either has not heard the Bose or has diminishing hearing.

The power and bass on the Burmester is top notch. I always had custom systems before, thus us the first config I felt I didn’t need to change anything.

Thats interesting, i am still waiting for the build slot, however, checked with my sales in Fed 2023, was been told the option was still not available . i guess its because this may cause further delays, as if you order in march 2023, you may expect delivery on later 2024 and the supply issue might be solved by the time.

I have heard both and don’t agree, it depends what you want.

If you want a low colouration sound with no gimmicks the standard system is fine.

If you want digital surround sound Bose has it - but it isn’t anything special, and not what I would call high fidelity to the recording.

I haven’t heard the Burmester system.

OTOH expecting quality sound in a car environment is limited by the laws of physics, so there is only so far one can go, I find digital manipulation can give some sort of stereo or surround effect if you like that sort of thing.

I may have got lucky. When I got an allocation in Nov 22, I had to remove Bose as it was not available. This forum helped me as Bose became available again on the 4 CT in Jan 23 and I quickly rang my dealer and they added it to the build. My car has now arrived in the UK and I pick it up in 2 weeks. According to the build sheet it has Bose on it... lets see...

Personally I have all of the gimmicks related to the Bose set-up switched off. But what also get with the Bose option over the base is a subwoofer in the boot, a more powerful amp and better quality/higher rated speakers.

Some people write-off car audio because when they listen to music they sit in a room in front of a stereo amp and a couple of floor-standers, but for me, the car is the place where I get to enjoy music the most. My M5 had the £4k Bowers and Wilkins option but you really had to have the volume really cranked to get the full benefit. With the Bose system on the Taycan you can get a nice thump of bass at lower volumes. No doubt the Burmester option is better but, for me, it's too expensive and the Bose is a decent compromise.

If car audio is important to you and you can't get Bose (or Burmester) plenty of audio-install places will do a completely invisible upgrade for you with great results for around £1k-£1.5k.

Have you considered upgraded wheels?

Porsche Taycan sound system option 1680472361904

Not sure what Porsche is thinking, but you can't upgrade the wheels on a 4CT in the US without getting a dashboard wart and upgraded sound system.

The standard system sounds thin and weak, low end sounds hollow / cardbox.
It’s fine for casual talkative radio, but you’ll never have a party.

I do think it depends a lot on what you want.
Back in the day I used to spend loads on in car audio - I am a gadget fan and a music lover so it made sense...

In the end all the "specialists" just seemed to think the objective was loud, with loads of bass.
I gave up wasting my money, since boomy bass only suits a range of music I don't care for that much and just loud is distracting to driving for somebody like me with Asperger's, I'd rather switch it off than turn it up.

Anyway, the best thing is to listen for yourself.

I am slightly surprised people have such strong opinions since when I went to audition the systems - I never buy without auditioning audio equipment - the difficulty was finding a car with standard audio. Bose seems to be either standard or just selected without checking, so I am surprised so many people have heard both the standard and Bose.

I wouldn't, personally, pay the price of the Burmester system because my car isn't the main place I listen to music.
When comparing the Bose and standard I felt the Bose didn't offer much over the standard system.

The standard system went loud enough for me - the car is very quiet.
The standard system has a low colouration sound, better than many aftermarket systems I have listened to for fidelity.
The bass in the standard system goes low (for a car) but is not boomy, one-note or overdone.

The Bose had a surround sound synthesis capability which gave a different "stereo" presentation, the standard system is not capable of that so has the bog standard car problem of the speakers and passengers being in completely the wrong place relative to each other for accurate stereo.

I had selected Bose because the dealer told me everybody does but when I was told of the delay I dropped it, I panicked a bit because there was so much strong feeling on the forums about it.

Now I have my car I am satisfied it is loud enough for me and the fidelity of the sound is better than average for a car system IME.
The stereo imaging is "meh" though :(

I'm intrigued as to what such a system consists of to cost that amount of money? You clearly don't shop at Richer Sounds.
