Hi all

My Taycan 4S is 4 years old at the end of the month and has circa 60k miles. I would normally be changing it for new now but due to the depreciation hit i have decided to hold onto it and run it for a further 3 years. I did extend the warranty last year but i am now in 2 minds going forward. Warranty costs are app. £1,200.00 a year and according to WBAC the car is only worth 31k right now.

What are peoples general view on this and what is the worst that can happen? The main battery is warrantied for 8 years i believe?

Look forward to your thoughts.

Don't go on WBAC valuations.
I just got £43400 for my June 2020 4S on 38400 miles from a Porsche dealer.

I’m in same boat,I’m renewing as the slightest fault will cost the warranty price straight off. I’ve had 2 heaters already .plus you get full assistance with recovery. Helped me out massively when got a cracked wheel in France. Small price to pay when you think what you save on petrol. IMO

I paid for a 3 year extended warranty, think it was just over £3K.

It's an electric car and only porchse can fix it for now. If I could go to my local independant porsche shop i would but I can't with this car.

If anything goes wrong with this car i don't see it being less than a couple thousand each time.

My PCM display flickers yellow every now and then and I know its just a matter of time before it packs up. Getting that replaced is easily going to be £2K.

It also makes it a quicker sale if the car has a warranty.

I was told by a Porsche main dealer that assistance and recovery are not included in the extended warranty. Is this correct?

I wouldn’t run a car like this Electric or ICE without a warranty- far to risky!

My 2021 had over $50k (US) done under warranty. Many controller replacements were over $5k. I would not dream of owning this car without a warranty. Mine came with 4 year factory plus two year CPO warranty. I paid $3700 for an additional factory warranty so I'm good until 2028. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

I will be renewing mine next year when it hits 3 years old. I wouldn’t risk owning a car like this out of warranty. As others have said, minor things are £2k+ and only a Porsche main dealer will fix it. It’s a no brainer

The 8 year battery warranty covers the battery. It doesn’t cover the associated parts, e.g. charging system, motors etc.
Other EV warranties may emerge - Warranty Wise have recently launched one - but labour costs and expertise mean that Porsche effectively has a monopoly on warranties. Running one outside the warranty isn’t really a starter.

I think circa £1200 a year is decent value. Mercedes want £3000+ / year for a C63. This is partly why I'll be changing my car.
