Hi all:

new to the forum, I just got a 2021 4S CPO last week, and still finding my way around here. I searched and didn’t find my answer (but it’s possible that it’s lost in the dozens of threads about failing heaters).

my question: when I set the heat to, say, 72, it blows tepid room temperature air. I have to set it in the mid-high 80s to get it to blow noticeably hot air. This feels like my Dyson space heater at home, in that the temperature you set is the temperature of the air it blows, as opposed to the temperature you’re trying to get the cabin to. But in every other car I’ve ever owned, including (as best as I can recall) my two 911s, the temp you set was for the desired cabin temp. And that’s also how I understand the owner’s manual. Plus, if that’s not the case, the “auto” setting doesn’t make much sense. But there’s no way the air that comes out on auto at 72 would ever warm my cabin to 72 degrees. (The airflow is also way too light. I’d expect it to blow hard on auto if I need to significantly raise the cabin temp but there’s barely any and I had to manually set the fan to at or near the max)

am I the only one experiencing this? Does this mean I am experiencing some sort of heater issue? The system was obviously checked as part of the CPO inspection, but it wouldn’t be the first time this dealership has missed something.

Again, sorry if this has been answered elsewhere and thanks for the extremely helpful forum!
Cheers.

Possible heater issue but check:

Air vents are open and not just pointing in the direction you want. Hold the vent flow graphic to display the slider and adjust as necessary. Repeat for each vent.

Check top vent is enabled.

Check the airflow is set to strong

Check AC is not in Eco or Eco Plus mode.

The temp you set is the target temp and Auto should be the default.

I did all those things but, full disclosure, I’m new to these cars and it’s not the least complicated system I’ve ever come across, so it’s fully possible that I’m doing something wrong.

Damn, I miss the good old days of dials and buttons. Dials and buttons never caused these issues

It's not complicated at all just poorly designed.

Next iteration of the Taycan is sure to reintroduce knobs and buttons for AC (Macan EV and Cayenne EV have them).

I found the airflow at Auto from factory annoyingly fast. Took me ages to understand the weird logic of the UI. You want it faster. Go to air con, then select Individual. This DISABLES Auto but enables one icon at the bottom FOR Auto (search me) that shows three waves hitting a man's chest. Make sure all three waves are blue. Then press Auto again on center console. You should now receive a hurricane.

Temperature setting is for cabin target but my heater is fairly asthmatic too. You want quick heating up from cold? Select cabin air recirculation for a bit.

It’s back with the dealer for this and a charging issue. Will update once I learn if something was wrong or I’m just slow learning the system.

Interested in updates when available. My 2021 Turbo has the same behavior: in ~ 50° F temps I have to set the cabin temp to 80+ in order for it to feel comfortable. It works, and it works just fine, but that's much higher than I would set the temperature control in any other car I've ever had (ICE or EV). I bought this car in August of 2025 so I don't know if this expected behavior or first symptoms of heater failure. The preheat/cool functions are available in the PCM, no errors there.

100% that above and it is not complicated, but wanted to add:
Select each vent circle and ensure it is Open (graphic to the left or right appears to control how much open you want each vent to be)

This graphic is from the simulator, but I am sure with a 4-zone you can set footwell temp to be Warmer for example.

Um, just drop the fan speed (Auto always blows stronger and then reduces).
