Im on the verge of taking the plunge and buying a 21 plate over 60 months meaning the car will be 7/8 years old at the end of the HP deal. Am I being incredibly stupid? Will there even be a market for one that old almost at the end of its battery warranty?

Honest opinion - but if you’re happy, the deal is good (that you end up with) and thinking of keeping for 5yrs just do it, enjoy for that time and don’t worry about it.

Easier said than done I know - but seriously, 5yrs is a long time. Worrying about how things will be then, you/we’d never do anything

Just make sure you have a warranty for the entire ownership. Repairs can be very expensive.

And when 7/8 years old it won’t be worth a lot. Technology’s change quickly. In 6 years battery’s may be different, more range, faster charging.

buying second hand seems like a good deal now. I have seen 1 year old gtss going fur considerably less than I payed my 4 CT new. Some around 110 k euro at official dealer.

I wouldn’t buy second hand at another dealer than Porsche.

Thanks. I’ve found a 21 plate volcanic grey one with £30k of options at a Porsche centre for £61k - 22k miles which is incredibly tempting. It cost over £107k
Who knows, maybe battery technology will evolve in such a way that cells can be replaced in the future .

I wouldn’t stress to much yes the technology will evolve but this is the same for any car new or used.
there are some great deals on used models
I recently cancelled my order for a new car and purchased a used car as I found basically the same car for 30k less only difference was no RAS and 4 seats not 5. Once I finished negotiations it was 34k saving roof transport and bike rack and 2 year extend warranty along with next 2 services car has only covered 900 miles

I have a '21 base going off lease in 8/24. I intend to purchase it for a whole host of reasons, mostly because it makes the most financial sense. If the car is dead in 5 years, who cares I will have gotten a 100k miles out of it. I have owned enough PCars to know that 7-10 years out, they still drive like new. Having said that, an extended warranty is a must as these cars can be outrageously expensive to fix (it is Porsche tax on steroids).

I have a 20 Turbo and I am at the end of my lease. The car has been good in terms of hardware, but I have experienced a recurring loss LTE connection that requires a reset from the "transport mode." I am a bit conflicted over buying at the end of lease for $72K versus getting another EV like a Polestar. I would be a bit concerned about selling the car at six years with a battery warranty that is closing.

OP, your question seems to be whether the car will have a “decent” resale value. Idk, but if you wait a couple more years you’ll find better prices. ‘21 plate is not yet at the middle plateau, and from what I gather the UK got a disproportionate number of cars (for .. reasons), so you’ll probably lose 50% of your acquisition price.

If, however, you’re asking whether the car will be still a fully functional, solid daily driver whose design will have aged extremely well, the answer is a resolute “yes!”.

I am thinking about taking the plunge into the EV world as well.

I am looking at it from a running cost point of view though. I have an M440i just now and I do 8-9K miles a year. With 1-2 of those being long trips (200 miles+) Daily driving you can maybe get 300-330 miles on a tank at a cost of £70-95.

So jumping to an EV I am saving on road tax and then there will be saving when it comes to "filling up" especially at home. Maybe not so much of a saving when using a major charging network, but every little helps

Why HP and not PCP and de-risk the depreciation to a known figure that you can walk away from if needs be? I suspect on a 3 or 4 year PCP the monthly payments are likely less than on HP and you can review at the end of the PCP term as to whether to keep (refinance/buy) or jump to another vehicle.
