Because of scatter gun marketing everybody has heard of Rolex, so probably more risky to wear than watches from the smaller top makers which most people have never heard of!

Thieves are almost always targeting watches with the greatest mass market appeal (like Rolex) versus some more obscure high horology brands unknown to the average non watch enthusiast.

Still so many style elements are shared between many luxury brands, some watches may be mistaken by a thief as a Rolex or similar brand from a distance and now you're a target.

Yeah, unfortunately my collection isn't seeing much light of day these days because of all the random robberies. Have actually sold of a few pieces as I'm not one to have safe/garage queens.

One of the trader lads at work recounted this story. Out for a few beers in Shoreditch. Outside a pub on the phone. A crim walks by and drags his sleeve down of the arm he is holding the phone pressed to his ear. It reveals his watch. The lads sees the crim and his pals and dashes back into the pub. The crim gang waits outside. The lad calls an uber, when it comes he runs out the pub and dives in. If the window was open he would have dived through. As he got in the crims wrestled with the car door to open. The lad screams at the uber driver to "DRIVE!!!". Welcome to a typical night out in London. Watch your watch..... For the first time ever, I bought a new watch for travel (arrived home today) as I don't want to take any of our Rolex in the current climate.

As it happens I quite enjoyed wearing it (Tag F1 quartz on rubber strap) and not having to worry about scratching it, smacking it about etc. A proper beater watch.

As my wife didn't take hers she was always asking the time, so I'm going to get her something similar.

Just starting out this journey, been learning about mechanical watches recently and it's been a fascinating experience. Really cool to have a piece of such precise engineering that runs completely off the energy generated by a spring in such a small package.

I've wanted to own a skeleton watch for many years, so my first purchase was this nice one from a Swiss watchmaker called Epos:

Note I'm not actually wearing the watch in this pic, the leather band was brand new and not broken in yet so I just lay the watch on my wrist for the pic.

I wear an Apple Watch daily, so I just need to find more occasions to dress up so I can actually wear this thing out

I've put it on a wide modified leather strap cuz I didn't like the plastic strap.
Now it looks like a proper watch and I love it!

PS Did you notice the top of the markers reflect light in different colors?
It's such a nice touch!

Have the same Casioak, but the light is so so so terrible, I don't wear it if there's any chance of low-light/evening. Fun, but certainly very quirky.

Speaking of Casioak, this is my current two watch travel set when I fly, since I can change time zone on both fairly easily.

Good luck on the Daytona, especially if you're trying to buy at retail price.

I have my ambitions set much lower and eyeing the new 2021 Omega Speedmaster or the Tudor Black Bay Chrono, Panda dial.

The Omega won’t let you down. Their movements are superb. Did you ever end up getting one?

Both are watches always mentioned in such high esteem - but of which I didn't really pay too much attention.

But both of these pictures changed my view....

The Patek Nautilus in blue looks amazing in the picture in water. Suddenly I got it. Way, way out of my price range though. Markup on these is something else.

And the Rolex President/Day Date in my favourite colour (Olive Green).
But I just love how they get the 3D Roman Numerals balanced on the dial.
Generally roman dials look so unbalanced....this looks exquisite imo.

Picked this up today. Had time and didn't want to pay over retail. So put myself on the waitinglist expecting a 4 year wait. Got the call this week, not even 4 weeks... Got lucky I guess. ??

LOL, can't believe my luck. Had registered at 2 stores and got the 2nd call yesterday, 9 month after registering.

Picking up another one of the babies next weekend at retail price of 14K USD.

Will be looking to sell on Chrono24 en make a grand or 5. ? ?
