In the old days it was an emergency brake and putting a car in PARK often inserted something in
the transmission, separate from the parking brake.

So what happens if driving at 50mph you push the parking brake button? Nothing, full anti-lock braking, some increasing braking algorithm?
I haven't found anything explaining it.

Have you tried it?

Why not try to have a look in the manual for the car?

My MY20 Cayenne's parking brake "button" (actually a small lever switch) functions the same way- I assume all Porsches (maybe not manual transmissions) do that.

on all current Porsches this is the emergency brake funktion. It does not apply the park brake, it activates a hydraulic brake at all 4 corners. You can try it at decent speed on a quiet road, watch out there is nobody behind you ;-)

Thanks, actually I did look in the manual but didn't find it, my bad.
I also think this is the way that safety features are implemented in most new modern cars. Certainly a lot of EV’s have this feature and as stated above also a number of cars with electronic handbrakes
