Hi all,

With my GTS ST due to be build completion today (hoorah!) - I'm starting to get ready to hopefully take delivery end of next month.
I had assumed the vehicle has some sort of puddle/low door lighting fitting as standard - but just a light, as opposed to any projection - but have seen conflicting reports around needing to spec this.

Can someone confirm what comes as standard please? I was looking at getting some aftermarket puddle/projection lights, but won't bother if the car isn't wired accordingly.

thanks!

Puddle lights are on the bottom of the door mirrors. If you spec ambient lighting, you get an additional light at the bottom of the interior door car, in place of a red reflector.

There is a connector inside the door car for the optional light (which is where you'd put your projector light in place of the aforementioned reflector) but it's not wired to anything so you'd need to take a feed for it from somewhere else.

Cheers Moonstone, I think that's what I expected, but good to get confirmation.

I haven't spec'd ambient lighting, so no puddle lights for me :-(

I had it specc'd on my factory order but due to delays took a different car (another cancelled order) and unfortunately it doesn't have ambient lighting either, so I've been investigating this. there is a void in the door card to accommodate the ambient lighting optical strip but it's not available to order from Porsche separately so I'm looking at third party alternatives. My goal is to have the doors light up the same way as with the ambient lighting option but, in the standard white without the ability to change colour.

Would definitely be interested in hearing how you get on with this one - as think that would be a cool retro-fit if do-able, although guessing any electrical additions to the vehicle would probably require formal recoding into the car - which would possibly only be achievable via main dealer..??

I've purchased additional LED drivers the same as those already present in the doors. All that's needed is to power these from the same harness as the existing, so no coding required.

Ambient lights came with my GTS here in the US, no separate option. I did select the puddle light option however.

Suncoast sells the puddle lights as an accessory, how would one use those?

I presume you mean, why buy something extra if the car already has them? Apologies if I've misunderstood, but if you mean this - the lights Porsche provide as standard just give a blanket light - whereas I'm guessing the Suncoast accessory gives a logo/wording to project down in place of the standard light?

Hope this helps?

It might be we are talking about 2 different things.
By ambient lighting, I was referring to:

Ambient Lighting
A choice of seven colored light schemes for the ambient lighting in the front footwells, front overhead console, front center console, and loudspeaker trims in the front and rear doors.
This is standard in the US GTS, it may be different in the UK.

I must say however, I don't know how this ambient lighting relates to the puddle lights.

Here's what I found at Suncoast, if it is of any use to you:
https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKULEDPRO.html
**Only for vehicles with factory installed puddle lights at the bottom of the door. If you don't have lights at the bottom of your door panel, it's not possible to add these. ..For Taycan models, only for cars with puddle lights on the bottom of the doors (option QQ1)

I got you now - think its the same thing... In the UK you only get the puddle lights if you spec the ambient lighting option (which isn't standard on the GTS here)

And those lights are exactly the things I wanted to pop onto mine, but needed to find out what the car came with. As you have ambient lighting included, you would be able to use these in place of the blanket lights pre-fitted to the bottom of the door. In my case, I think all I have is a reflector in the space where the lights would go... Hope that makes sense!

Here in the UK you have 2 seperate options. Ambient lighting and LED projector door light (Porsche letters projected on the floor. If you tick the door light option it will automatically add the ambient lighting. If you only tick the ambient light option you can add the LED projector at a later date. You need the wiring harness that is provided with the ambient lighting option.

There's a bit of confusion here. Partly because standard equipment differs across different territories and due to differences in vernacular referring to different parts and options. What I'm about to say here only relates to the UK market and the GTS as I've no certain knowledge on anything else:

The GTS comes standard with a number of interior lights. Puddle lights are on the underside of the wing mirrors and light up the ground below. These are standard. The GTS also comes standard with white LED strips in the door bins and in the interior door handles. Footwell lights are present also but they turn off along with the roof lights in the cabin.

The bottom of the door card has a red reflector as standard. When you select the ambient lighting option above, that reflector is replaced with a light. Which then means, at any time you can swap that light out for an OEM Porsche projector light or any suitable third party one that fits.

If you haven't spec'd ambient lighting, the wiring loom for said light is still present inside the door card but isn't connected to anything at either end, so even if you connect a light up to it, it won't work. This is why, if you select the projector lights on the configurator that it automatically adds ambient lighting.

It's also worth noting that the door bin light strip has one LED driver at either end of it (making it brighter) on Ambient lighting equipped cars, but only one driver is present on non-ambient lighting cars.

I'm currently pulling parts together to have a working projector light and an upper light strip in the door card, along with a brighter door-bin illumination by retrofitting the additional OEM LED drivers and a suitable fibreoptic strip in the factory location in the door card. I'll power these by taking a feed from the harness that powers the existing drivers.

For the projector light I need to tap into a feed that switches off when the door is closed, otherwise it'll stay on all the time. I haven't explored this yet as my priority is the light strips.

Puddle Lights for me are a Must Have. They run off the 12V system and it won't throw any codes.
Look on ebay or Amazon but make sure you get the LED/Forever bulbs. They are LED's and they literally last forever for you.
I like the ones that have the brighter colors vrs the bland washed out ones.
Here are the ones I put in my Taycan 4S.
Each order should come with a left and a right side. Don't forget about the 2 back doors too. Lol

If I just have the reflector where the standard puddle lights would be, can I have puddle lights fitted?

It looks like the wiring is there but not connected for them?
