Does anyone ever actually use Sport mode?

One of thye things which most impressed me when I first drove a Taycan was that it had a supple ride but with excellent body control, the roads around here are terrible.

It was a cross turismo though. In Sport the body control is little better but the ride is markedly worse so Normal is excellent for really pressing on in comfort.

I was impressed overall by the Sport plus setting on the Anglesey circuit which is quite cambered but few bumps.
This weekend, I explored some of the more interesting roads through the Forest of Bowland, reputedly favoured by TVR (Blackpool) for development testing. In Sport Plus, the car was too jittery on the uneven surfaces, dips and brows, making the throttle jitter as well. Sport mode was an improvement but flowing progress was easiest in Normal, though even then the sharper dips needed treating cautiously to avoid scraping the front underside- I'm not aware of a way to force it to stay High above 90?kph.

“First gear is mainly used in Sport and Sport Plus driving modes. Launch Control is also available in these modes. The transmission remains in first gear for a relatively long time, then shifts into second gear with a shift overboost.”

Tested sport mode on my RWD this morning going to work. It still upshifts at 85km/h so there's no difference there but downshifting might be different (I have to confirm). I remember that it would downshift when dropping below 55km/h regardless if I was braking or not while this morning it would downshift only when I lifted the foot from the brakes aka I felt the downshift as low as at 35km/h as I braked down from 70km/h. Remove the foot from brake pedal and hear the "kzz" and motor reving up slightly at whatever speed (below 55km/h).
Need to test in normal mode again to confirm if the behavior is the same (or not)

Switching into sport mode is part of my start up sequence. I only have 3 settings: range, normal and sport - because I'm poor. So sport is by far the one I'm using most.

You can tell that sport is the default way the car drives. "Normal" seems to enable some limiters to prevent too quick acceleration and feels very unnatural. The range only goes up a bout 2-3 miles when using this mode anyway.

Same behaviour. 85km/h upshift, 55km/h downshift. It does feel different somehow. Not sure what it could be. Just the stiffer dampeners?

So after soon two years of being a happy Taycan owner, I've realised that I have never deliberately used Sport mode even once. That made me think, what is actually the purpose of that mode and who actually uses it?
  • Range mode is self-explanatory.
  • Normal mode is great for everyday driving for smoother acceleration and more efficient driving when you don't care about acceleration.
  • Sport Plus is for fun driving.
  • Sport ís for what? When you kinda want some performance, but not too much?
Sport is such a weird middle setting with no apparent distinct purpose. What am I missing here?
Ha! Great question.

I use Sport Plus mode almost exclusively and Normal when my wife is in the car. I do regular long trips and will get onto the motorway, use innodrive in Range mode to stretch the range as much as possible and make it as relaxing as possible.

I’m 19 months and 41,000 miles in, on a CT Turbo S.

I like sport mode when driving on snow. All four wheels engaged.

Well I know we're supposed to have a spoiler and something tiny comes out when I tap that cleaning spoiler button but

a) It's nowhere as high as in that video
b) you can't see it on your own car while on the highway and I haven't managed to convince anyone to check out my butt while speeding

So for all purposes, it's a myth until proven otherwise ?

That said (and well said Sir), I have to mention regarding the point a), that the spoiler benefits from 3 different positions, assuming you're able to drive fast enough. :bandit:
Your point b) though is perfectly valid, as opposed to the spectacular deployment of the rear wing of the Panamera.

Porsche explains "The Taycan is fitted with the Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) system, consisting of an adaptive rear spoiler and adjustable cool air intakes, specifically for dynamic driving. Depending on the situation, the rear spoiler extends in three stages: at 56 mph, 99 mph, and 124 mph, it demonstrates where an electric vehicle becomes a sports car and a sports car becomes a Porsche."

You have speed cameras in EU don't you? They will mail you a picture (or maybe email you a link) ;)

This is the best post of the day. Congratulations sir.

However, last time I was at 237km/h, I didn't have the mental presence to turn around and try to check out the spoiler (is that even possible? ?)

How can I drive at over 30mph and check the spoiler at the same time? Roof hatch wasn't an option on my order ?
