My other toy is a Jeep that I would like to use to explore the smaller town without fear of infrastructural issues.I’ve done that drive a dozen times. Get yourself some books on tape and it’s a breeze. My only advice is to plan your charging at locations with relatively more chargers and stay on the main highways. I’ve had one bad EV travel experience, taking a less traveled road that lead to smaller charging stations. For reasons I won’t get in to, that led to a 4 hour wait for a charger.
The other reason to avoid backroads and small towns is due to the risk of power outages. We drove our ICE car to Death Valley over the holiday and the power was out for three days. We saw a women trying to charge her Tesla all three days with no luck. The hotel generators were not used to power up the EV chargers.
