I’ve done that drive a dozen times. Get yourself some books on tape and it’s a breeze. My only advice is to plan your charging at locations with relatively more chargers and stay on the main highways. I’ve had one bad EV travel experience, taking a less traveled road that lead to smaller charging stations. For reasons I won’t get in to, that led to a 4 hour wait for a charger.

The other reason to avoid backroads and small towns is due to the risk of power outages. We drove our ICE car to Death Valley over the holiday and the power was out for three days. We saw a women trying to charge her Tesla all three days with no luck. The hotel generators were not used to power up the EV chargers.
My other toy is a Jeep that I would like to use to explore the smaller town without fear of infrastructural issues.

I’ve been doing the same thing lately but in a 4Runner and a GT4RS, road conditions being the determining factor.

Wow, apparently I should be dead by now... since I live in TX. Gotta love how media reinforces stereotypes. Now where did I leave that flak jacket?

It never seizes to amaze me. One of human cognitive biases is assuming groups of which you are a part of are very diverse, while groups of which you are not a part of are very homogenous. So, in case of @Marmolata, all Texas residents are about the same, represented by extremes shown in the media, but there are all kinds of UK residents, fully understanding that any extremes shown in the media are not representative of general UK population. I heard once from a relative, who lives in a different country, that they would not want to even visit the USA because there are people murdering each other, to which I pointed out that their country murder rate per capita was actually higher during the prior year, but they just dismissed my argument stating how safe they feel where they live. People unaware of their biases will continue to fall victim to them. ?‍♂ I wish everyone would be aware of these.

Honestly, I wasn't sure if @Marmolata was being sarcastic or not, but even if they were, it still shows what the stereotypical perception of TX is. This state is far from perfect, but it's also a place I really enjoy living in (Austin in particular, no offense intended to anyone in a different part of TX). @whitex that's an interesting graphic. Thanks for sharing it.

Why bring the UK into it?

It is true people get pretty weird perceptions but there are some pretty wild people confidently spewing complete balderdash which reinforces it.

I saw a video of some raging political “Karen” last year remonstrating with a UK journalist about our terrible knife crime here in the UK, her surname was Green iirc, but a quick look showed knife murders per capita has improved in the US but is still worse than in the UK (where it is indeed considered a big problem).

I met a lovely old couple in Atlanta who had decided not to visit the UK because of the muslim fundamentalists who might cut their heads off, which is beyond ridiculous but they were seriously convinced it would be too dangerous.

I have visited the USA frequently over the last 54 years and have friends and relatives there. I wouldn’t consider living in the US but have never felt particularly in danger - but that could be naivety…

Solely because I wanted to illustrate the cognitive bias as it applied to the comment made by @Marmolata, and it was the only group that @Marmolata is publicly identifying with, via the profile location set to UK. A person from location X is talking about people in location Y. X=profile_location=UK and Y=location_in_the_comment=Texas in this case. No other reasons, or generalizations about people specifically from the UK. The 50 biases, including this one, apply equally to people on Earth.

@Marmolata has a stars and stripes flag and location UK so is he an Englishman (or Scot or Welshman) living in the USA or a USian living in the UK?
I saw his comment as somebody in California critiscising Texas, almost a common meme ;) as is vice versa IME.

As I illustrated with my story, as a person who has travelled widely it isn't unusual to find people with weird ideas about other countries, particularly in places with a narrow education syllabus.

Or an Englishman who visited US, or perhaps logs into the forum through a VPN - the flag is based on the IP from which you login, and it does not refresh often (I've talked to members who once logged in from somewhere while visiting, their flag changed to that country and didn't change back for weeks). Or perhaps it's an international spy, collecting data for some rouge government. Or maybe AI? The latter would be most interesting, as it would indicate AI suffers from the same cognitive bias as humans do! :)

Same point that I was making, just used a comment made here from someone who claimed to be from the UK. This is the cognitive bias I was illustrating (from the graphic of 50 I posted above). Note no reference to UK in the graphic ;)

I read a few of his posts to get clues. Lots of mention of US$ so my guess is a Brit living in US or an USian proud of UK heritage. Anyway doesn’t matter.

My first trip to the US was a 1970 student exchange to Milwaukee for 8 weeks and I met people claiming to be “Italian” and “German” who weren’t there so who knows?

I think there is only one thing we can conclude with some level of certainty, he (or she, we don't know that detail) does not consider himself/herself a Texan, but suffers from the Outgroup Homogeneity Bias. :CWL:

PS> I'm an engineer, a stickler for details, and separating facts from assumptions and presumptions.

Road trip aborted. I had a work situation come up requiring my attention for what could be several days. I had to hop the next flight home. I almost cried handing back the key so the salesman to ship my car home. At least I had a new Porsche coffee tumbler and an owner's manual to read on the flight home. For what it's worth, some of my kindest friends and acquaintances are from Texas. Thank you all for your kind sage advice.
