Going by these numbers, why are traffic lights not coming as "doubles", two traffic lights in one? Imagine each traffic light actually has 2 traffic lights, 180 degrees offset only one of them active, with a motorized rotation mechanism which can rotate it 180 degrees when active light burns out. Heck, put 4 of them 90 degrees apart, that would quadruple the life of the LED traffic light at probably less than 4x the cost, yet still cheaper than a single one plus one replacement (which by your numbers is a minimum of $6K, $1K original light + $5K replacement cost + 1K replacement light).
LED traffic lights don’t require replacement every year at a minimum like traditional incandescent lamps do.
Compact fluorescents in traffic lights are not competitive against LEDS because they don’t turn on fast enough & the ones that do have a much shorter lifetime than a LED array.
The lifetime of the traditional incandescent lamps is 1-2 years while LED array traffic lights is 10-20 years.
The time to replace an LED array module is the same as an incandescent lamp replacement so the maintenance cost is 1/10th to 1/20th of the incandescent lamp replacement every one to two years.
The power savings from the LEDS is just an additional bonus.

What goes around, comes around (pun intentional).

Aka, they scam when they can, and if you tell them to stop scamming you, they stop.
Lovely premium brand, porsche :)

Not to mention how obvious the bullshit about not seeing the warranty is...
Well it did come end of April so at time of replacement it did not exist. Hence the owner had to pay.

But of course they could have retroactively contacted the owners and refunded them. They chose not to do that.

I am happy to report, that today I finally received a credit invoice and my money back for the OBC replacement that was carried out in March this year.

So now both me and @DannyD got our money back!

Hi all,

I recently bought a lovely 2022 CT 4S - the 22KW OBC promptly died last week - so I’m headed in for a repair soon.

A big thanks to the community here for pointing out this is still in warranty, much appreciated!

Last not least, apparently there is a cash reimbursement of about 3500,- EUR as from now on replacements are 11KW only. Apparently this was paid out in Vienna, though other owners from Germany are still waiting for a resolution.

Details on pff.de here: https://www.pff.de/thread/2820793-bordnetz-gestoert-fahrzeug-verkehrssicher-abstellen/?pageNo=20

It would be really interesting to find out if this works out for you, as well?

Do you guys know whether the 5 year warranty period for the OBC applies also across markets? I purchased my Taycan in Italy, but then imported it into Switzerland.

Porsche Italy was unable to offer Approved Warranty on a car that was sold for export, and now Porsche Switzerland refuses to issue Approved Warranty until the car is officially in my possession for more than 3 months.

That means, for 3 months, I am out of warranty, which has caught me off guard. This is a negligence on my part, as my due diligence on the topic was clearly incomplete. But yeah, all the horror stories about the 22 kw OBC are making me rather stressed.

Reading this thread, however, has shed a new light on my situation. If the 22 kw OBC is anyway covered by the "New vehicle warranty" terms, then this should apply to my case too, as my car was first registered on April 2021.

What I don't know is whether Porsche Switzerland would have any basis to refuse coverage due to the car being an import. I have tried to find some info on the matter, but no luck. Do you guys have any idea?

They extended the warranty on the OBC to 5 years in April this year.
So you should have warranty until April 2026.

I'm in the same boat as you.
Bought from Germany, no Approved for 3mo when registered in Romania.
OBC died and just got sorted via the 5y warranty extension last week, next week I'm getting the Approved warranty.

Lovely, many thanks for the confirmation! That really gets a lot of weight off my shoulders.

That’s strange, I exported my Taycan from Germany into Belgium and the CPO warranty was applied fine.

Maybe some EU markets have their CPO warranty underwritten by the same company. But in my case, both Porsche Italy and Porsche Switzerland were very adamant that the italian CPO coud not be applied to a car sold for export to Switzerland.

I can't claim, however, that I know the specifics of it. I just guess that whatever is the insurance company partering with Porsche Italy isn't the same as the one in Switzerland, and refuses to cover cars registered there.

Apparently Approved is being offered by individual insurers on a country by country basis - it is mad. Can't carry it over in most EU countries - but might work in some.

I guess what’s confusing me is this - the CPO warranty is a “worldwide” warranty, so you can in theory buy it when you buy the car and it should be honoured wherever else in the world you are.

I bought my car from Porsche Essen and they sell a lot of cars for export. I’d be very surprised if they knew the ins and outs of export plates, the paperwork needed for Belgium etc but sold me a warranty that was worthless.

I will, however, check chapter and verse.
