Concerning the 22 kW there was a large discussion in this forum about the technical problems and the company providing this part.
I remember this company no longer provides Porsche with the part and a reinforced charger has not been developed.
Porsche can only exchange the charger with the same faulty part that will fail again.
Workarounds have been presented here to probably rebuild the charger to la afterwards...without support by Porsche.
So I guess the 22 kW option won't ever be available again as an option and this will be the way how Porsche gets rid of all 22 kW chargers in existing Taycans.
Sad story and it's a matter of time, any charger will fail.
Mine has been exchanged last year, so I guess I will have the for the next 1-2 years.
Than it's gone.
On the one hand it could offer a possibility to get a good deal for a new Taycan, on the other hand I would like to keep my car for some years to come as I like it and it's doing a good job.

Please keep us posted how Porsche will compensate you, as it will be an example for others to come.

Unconfirmed rumors were Financial Problems with the Company producing the charger.
At least in the original J1.1 Taycan the 22kW AC charger was provided by Kostal and manufactured in Ireland.

https://www.kostal-electro-mobility.com/en/

I did see some mentions that more recently they might have moved supplier (or manufacturing plant) and they were being produced in Italy.

Kostal itself has been around for a long time and supplies a lot of companies and industries. Haven't heard anything about them having difficulties.

only if there is enough to matter vs cost to address this issue - cheaper to pay them
off vs ramping a new part - it was an option with not a high take up rate
Pay them off may mean buying the car back since they are essentially unable to repair the vehicle back to manufacturer specifications. This might not be cheap, even at low take rates.

good point - we'll have to see how this plays out - although a "Generous" cash payment with an 11 kW charger might make a lot of people "keep the car" with the lesser 11 kW OBC…

while 22 kW charging is "nice" - I'm not sure a lot of owners could honestly summon a "Need" for that - no doubt there are a few use cases - there always are - but honestly for normal use it's really really hard to imagine a hardship for 11 kW charging support with a generous payment in exchange for the loss of functionality…

again - will be interesting to see how this plays out.

i am going through the exact same thing right now. brought my taycan to my local dealer today where they verified that infact the OBC is broken.
the rep told me that new 22kw OBC will be available in october and i should just drive. i told him that this is not going to work and questioned him how porsche thinks to compensate me for this. he then told me that i could potentially downgrade to 11kw but porsche officially wouldnt do that, i guess it's because of the paying off issue you guys are talking about.
i then gave him the choice, either porsche pays for my charges until i get the 22kw obc or they put the 11kw in and replace it once 22kw is available. he told me he will come back with an answer.

Most owners don't "need" Turbo S either. Turbo S vs. 4S is also "nice" and Porsche downgrading Turbo S to 4S would not qualify as hardship in courts. Heck, they don't "need" a Porsche either, but Porsche cannot just give you a used Bolt (matching the age and mileage of your Porsche EV) if they feel it's cheaper than fixing your car. All that said, I don't think proving hardship is required in this case.

For my personal use case, I would consider bigger J1.2 battery as a fair trade off, as it would offset most of my usecases, such as short notice longer trip where I want to quickly go from 85% to 100% (with larger battery, its 85% would give me more capacity, so instead of 85-100 I would only have to do 85-92%, so half speed works out) as well as quick turnaround at home on some trips (again, bigger capacity means I have more buffer, especially if I start at 100% in the morning). Porsche already has a procedure to use larger J1.2 batteries in J1.1 cars, they'd just need to amend it to enable the full capacity (not lock it down to original J1.1 spec). Alternatively, a set of load balancing 20kW DC 240V chargers for my house could also be considered a fair compensation for my usecases - it doesn't help with on-the-road 80A charging, but I know know one such charger near where I travel, and there are enough DC chargers around today that I could skip it today. If not two 20kW DC chargers, at least 1 AC and 1 DC which can talk to each other to balance 19.2kW (to replace my current tripple 19.2kW, but could live with dual).

That’s a good news. It means that there will a be a new part and I won’t be surprised if there will be a recall at some point. Similar to what they did for the heater. They extended the warranty 1st and then they did the recall.

Please, for heaven‘s sake let this be double checked. When my car was diagnosed 3 weeks ago, I was told that the 22KW charger would be available in calendar week 42 (mid Oktober). I guess it was data direct from the part order system. I asked this to be rechecked with Porsche Itself and than it changed to NO LONGER AVAILABLE.

I am crossing all fingers for you. Please let me know if this turns out to be true, if so I would certainly have to revisit my PZ.

PS: Funny, your car looks like mine. Neptunblue ?

Just talked with my sales guy… he confirmed that 22kw charging units are no longer available.
According to his info from Porsche Stuttgart, all current orders are with 11kw only… also, 11kw are used as a replacemenrs when 22kw fails.
He said there are rummors that 22kw might come back in the future, but he doesn’t know when… 🤷‍♂️

If it's a sales guy he is probably talking about the J1.2 Taycan - 22kW has never been an option since the facelift was introduced. But the question being asked in this thread is about replacing an existing 22kW in a J1 Taycan - is he talking about the same thing? Better to ask the Service Manager I think.

He knows what he’s talking… maybe i just haven’t expressed myself well enough.
I wanted to say, that all broken 22kw units are replaced with 11kw.
In my case, last year, they replaced mine with 22kw, twice.

Let‘s for a moment presume it comes back some time in the future. Do I get it back ? Free of charge ? With installation ?
