I hold a bit of a contrarian view on this. If you can truly afford the vehicle, then you can afford to roll the dice and keep driving it as long as enjoy it. If a repair comes up, deal with it. The repair would very likely be lower cost than a replacement vehicle.

If you are over your skis financially, buy the warranty.

to add to this:

if an extended warranty makes financial sense for the warranty company, it does not make financial sense for the buyer. they generally charge more than the average cost of repairs over the given period. so it's most likely that the repairs will be cheaper than the cost of the extended warranty too.

Although I agree that it might not make economic sense, it’s a question of whether you can afford the insurance, if you can easily afford the insurance then you can probably afford to self insure. If the insurance seems like a stretch, it might be a good option

Porsche Approved insurance has a pricing model through all Porsche models with small differences.
I could imagine, insurance claims are also calculated throughout the entire Porsche line-up.
So this "cross-financing" includes high mileage Taycans as well as 911's with a yearly mileage of 1500.

Unless subsidized by the gov't, any insurance (life, car, health, home) will always favor the insurance company over the individual. Yet we all still buy these other insurance.

I bought an extended policy because because in my experience, any repair at the Porsche dealer in going to be a minimum of 4-5k. Or the price of a 3-5 year policy.

Just had heater and on-board-charger replaced, as well as the ventilation module on one seat.
I guess, this pays for at least 7 years of Porsche approved.
All for zero and an e-Macan for my holiday-trip to Austria.
Taycan was transported to my hometown dealership (180 km) and I took a taxi home on the expense of the insurance.

NEVER NOT APPROVED FOR ME.
