My rear motor failed last year, 41K miles. The warranty company paid out $24K parts and labor.

I'm not afraid that HW support will ever be a problem. It is almost 'the' unique selling point of the brand. SW on the other hand... for example, what will happen when Porsche Connect Care service stops after the initial 10 years. Do we need to pay? Will it stop? What happens when it is not connected?

I think once the warranties start to expire we will see a whole load of independent garages/shops and suppliers spring up including batteries/battery modules. At the moment there is no incentive as Porsche have it all tied up with the warranties. But once the first batteries come off warranties that equation changes

Wouldn't it be covered by 8yr/100mi? My XC90 is out of warranty, and recently the charger went bad, and so did a couple more components, like the AC compressor, which is considered part of the EV system. Everything was replaced without any cost to me, and that car is 7 years old, and I did not buy extended.

They're obliged to keep making key parts available for 10yrs after a model goes out of production.

Parts will likely be very expensive, so reclaimed parts will probably be the best value... But overall it's not something I'm worrying about.
This is an urban legend. Please look for any law or rule that requires 10-year parts availability - there is none. Porsche is required to have parts and batteries for warranty repairs. If they can’t make the repair I think they would need to buy the car. 2024 CPOs would take warranty repair requirements out to 2030 and beyond.

Are there plans by VAG to keep manufacturing J1.1 motors as replacements or will you have to do DIY transplants from scrapped Taycans to keep it running after the motor blows?
Keep in mind that Porsche design the motor(s) and assemble the manufactured parts by others - primarily ZF Friedrichshafen.

Invariably these assembled motors find their way across the group and within a brand model range. I suspect supply won't be too much of an issue for the foreseeable given the broad base and I think there is a 10 year requirement post production completion. Porsche warranty can be for up to 15 years.

Interesting if you watch the Matt Armstrong videos where he rebuilds crashed cars, to see just how many of the components used come from many other cars and manufacturers, the classic being the parts sourced in his Bugatti Veyron rebuild where Bugatti refused to supply him. Same part off a different car at a fraction of the Bugatti prices..

European Right to Repair legislation 2021 stipulates 10 year spare parts availability.
