I like it, but then again I liked the BMW and the Mercedes Benz too so I’m probably the right demographic target lol

Porsche designers have managed to make it more ugly than the previous. Great job at large heavy coupe boxes. The claim It’s the best handling SUV it is not enough to make porsche resurrect from commercial death.

While I think Porsche has its issues, I think your comment is a little bit dramatic. Sure, they are more expensive than a lot of other cars, but they do bring things which others don't. Let's take the Taycan, the best handling EV I have been able to drive, extensive customizability at order time, these are things some people, myself included, are willing to pay some extra premium for. Of course, Porsche needs to make their product more reliable (I've owned many cars, including 4 Teslas over a decade, but Taycan spent the most time in service per year and sadly the only car I've ever owned that left me stranded, i.e. car under unable to drive at all), but if they an swing that, and keep their prices from exploding, I think they have a shot. If people can buy a Model 3 Performance for $75K or a Taycan which beats the Model 3 on all performance parameters (from drag racing to handling) with custom features for under $150K, I think the Taycan will still have customers.

4 door coupes are a relatively new affectation when companies like BMW and Audi wanted to find new ways of reaming customers with the same product/platform....

... Or wanted to give families with small kids an easier option for getting the kids in and out without them thinking they had to give up a sportier looking car.

I'm very much of the live and let live demeanour, but have always struggled with "coupe SUV". An SUV for me is all about practicality. Cut part of the roof off and that dimishes by the same amount.

And there's no making a massive SUV look sporty IMO. They just look daft.

This is then underscored by them invariably (in the UK) being pimped out and seen in areas where I'd be very surprised if the hidden cargo areas wasn't being used for baggies of contraband.

But hey, Porsche are persevering. Audi are. BMW are. Lambo are. So clearly there's a market.

Each to their own.

I miss the time when you could tell the Brand even from some significant distance, unmistakably MB or BMW or Japanese (perfectly bland).
Today, in most cases, you need to see a badge, all of the new cars look alike, can’t tell the difference between Euro, US or Asian cars, in the sea of countless crossovers.
Beside some notable exceptions, at least at the upper bracket, like Rolls, Porsche coupes and sedans, etc, all the rest(including Porsche), look boring, uninspiring and not causing any emotional reaction leading often to spontaneous purchase.
I have never heard of someone who after seeing a Cayenne or Macan on the road, proclaiming “OMG! so gorgeous, I must have it.
This new Cayenne might be the best crossover on market, technically tour de force but no one will give it a second look when spotting one in the Wild.
All these new cars are so bland that they look like they were designed by the same designer, even interiors very similar to others either the cheap looking, cheap to make oversized screens.
Used to be only in Tesla, now every one is aping it while ignoring the customers dislike of them and contributing to more dangerous and distracted driving.
This Cayenne could be from KIA or BYD and no one would be able to tell the difference.

I agree with you. I think it's large businesses optimizing for largest appeal. If everyone is the same, the product appeals to everyone, or at least they don't have a choice. Any unique design is always polarizing, take CyberTruck for example, definitely spottable from a distance and hard to mistake it for something else. But , some people love it, some hate it - polarization resulting in reduced addressable market share (Elon's antics with Trump didn't help either, but even if he didn't do it, CyberTruck was always polarizing).

Furthermore, what is attractive changes. Often a new design might seem very eye catching but after a while it just grows old on you, even quicker if everyone else copies it. The large screen came from the original Model S, which when it came out was really eye-catching. It then grew old, but not before lots of its aspects were copied, including the large screen. Another example how the design can grow old is the 2nd generation Tesla Roadster, it got old and boring before it even hit production.

Bland sells. Most popular colors for cars are black and white. That holds consistently over last few decades and many geographies. Various color fads come and go, but black and white continues to sell the best long term.

….and I wholeheartedly agree with you.
An absolute majority of people does not want to stick out like a sore thumb, they always choose the easier, “safe” choice and in essence are Lemmings, trying to blend in and do what everyone else around them does.
Afraid to be called extrovert they choose what others do, the same look, color and style.
Boring…. but that’s what they are themselves.
That’s why a mob is so dangerous, there are no individuals in it and people do things they would never do themselves on their own.
….but that’s a whole another subject, sorry for deviating from the original thread.

For completeness: "coupé" is French (note the accent) for "to cut" and in car terms refers to the sloping roofline when viewed from the side.

Here's what Gemini has to say on the matter: "A coupe is a fixed-roof car characterized by a sleek, sloping rear roofline, usually featuring two doors and a sporty design. While traditionally having two seats or a 2+2 layout, modern coupes often include four-door variants (four-door coupes) that balance stylish aesthetics with increased practicality."
Being French I confirm :)

Love the Cayenne coupé design, it's like a bigger Taycan, might have found my replacement !! (J1.1 Turbo is too sporty for my old back I guess lol)
