Based on the earlier this month’s linked article fromTheDrive which says the 2027 Taycan’s will have a virtual-PDK transmission with gears and sounds similar to the auto-media and customer acclaimed aHyundai Ionic 5N’s e-shift virtual trans, TheDrive’s article also mentioned that next model years’ Taycan’s will also have other software improvements. Thanks to TheDrive for their key article:
https://www.thedrive.com/news/porsche-is-adding-fake-gear-shifts-to-its-evs-2027-taycan-will-be-first-exclusive
Porsche shared the Taycan’s 2027 virtual trans and software upgrades to its dealership reps at their last month Atlanta, annual, pre-next-year model intro presentation.
Based on that article and the below, what do you think might be the 2027 Taycan’s upgrades, including what could be the software upgrades the 2027 Taycans get to go along with the paddle shift virtual-PDK simulated gears and sounds???
Possibly relatedly, a key Porsche Cayenne EV reveal article said that these upgrades will be on the Cayenne EV new model. Might some of these become what TheDrive refers to as software upgrades to the 2027 Taycan?
“The new Porsche Digital Interaction is a digital operating philosophy and design language that expands the Porsche Driver Experience and is geared towards individualisation and quick access to functions. Widgets allow access to preferred functions, while the Themes app customises the colour scheme of all displays. Numerous third-party apps can be integrated directly into the vehicle via the Porsche App Centre. Diverse streaming and gaming features take the digital experience to a new level. The new Voice Pilot also contributes to this. Thanks to artificial intelligence, it understands complex, interrelated queries, recognises the context and responds like a real conversation partner. It enables the navigation to be controlled intuitively and extensive online knowledge can be accessed. With the Porsche Digital Key, the smartphone and smartwatch become vehicle keys that can be shared digitally with up to seven other users.”
Do you think that some or all of these are possible transfer software and other improvements to the 2027 Taycan?
The virtual PDK would require steering wheel paddle shifts. As we know, the paddles are already standard on the Taycan Weissach model and optional on the GTS, Turbo, and Turbo S models — so that would not be a difficult change.
As to the fake sound probably coupled with the Taycan virtual trans, if one listens twice in the first 30 seconds of this Autgefuhl video (https://youtu.be/MWNjp-37k7M?si=spszrXwWGZd71sZJ ) and also in following MotorSpexx 2 minute video (), they each presents the new Cayenne EV sounds that are based on the ICE Cayenne’s V8. Could the Taycan’s virtual PDK sounds be the same or similar? But have they created more than the V8 replica sounds, for TheDrive quotes also that the virtual PDK can “make it feel like a proper torque converter gearbox. I could not tell the difference.”
Most likely that just as Active Ride, Drive Assist, and so many other Porsche “enhancement systems” are able to be easily shut off via one click within the PCM, those who never want it on their 2027 Taycan could avoid it entirely. But to hear the truly positive ravings of almost every auto-media who have reviewed the Ionic 5N’s e-shift…., many say it is THE key feature of that model.
Wonder if the virtual trans would be an expensive option or join the highly-probable, standard 2027 Taycan improvement of at least one NACS port (again à la the 2026 Cayenne EV)?
Looking forward to learning more about 2027 Taycan changes.
