Sharing my observations after swapping my 5 year J1.1 4S with a new J1.2 GTS (PTHGA7F9) back in December. Feedback and comments welcome, especially if you can help on the points in bold (I’ve tried a few searches on the forum …)
Power - As a road car, I think for me the sweet spot in terms of power would have been the 4S with perhaps just a little extra. The GTS feels like it’s hardly trying and it needs a track to be fully appreciated, which I guess is what the GTS is about.
Charging - I’d mastered the J1.1 and used timers to take advantage of cheap overnight electricity. In the J1.2 I expected Optimised Charging set to manual with preferred start and end times to do the same, but the car charges regardless of the times. I gave up and now use an Ohme EVSE with Intelligent Octopus Go to smart charge, which is better even though it causes annoying charging errors from the car. I’d like to stop the errors with smart charging and also understand how the car timers are supposed to work.
Range - So far I’d estimate it has around 40 miles more than the 4S would on a full charge, but I’ve not had it in any really hot weather yet.
Cruise Control - Standard cruise control was great in the 4S to keep speed in check, especially in lower limits, but ACC is a pain because it often misreads traffic and randomly slows down quickly. Reducing the distance monitored helps, but I’m now trying the (Speed) Limiter function which also uses the cruise control stalk.
Also, the cruise control stalk looks the same, but Porsche frustratingly rearranged its use - I’ve built up the muscle memory for this new configuration, but still think the original was a much better arrangement.
Drive Modes - For every day use I prefer Normal mode over Sport as the transmission is smoother, but I also prefer the Sport chassis settings. It’s not possible to save that combination.
ADAS - This hasn’t been the pain I expected from driving other cars and I’ve not found it intrusive apart from Lane Keeping Assist which is easily switched off (I just press and hold the small button on the cruise control stalk for a few seconds every time I jump in).
Surround View - The display comes on automatically when the car goes into reverse, which is often helpful but when you don’t want it there’s nothing to press on the screen to remove it - the only way I’ve found is to go back into neutral. Am I missing something?
Matrix Headlights - These are brilliant (pun intended). I used to get flashed a lot in the 4S so I think the headlights were a bit bright for other drivers, but that’s hardly happened in the GTS with the matrix headlights doing their thing. They can’t ‘carve out’ a darker gap around vehicles waiting to pull out from junctions in the same way that they do when following or for oncoming vehicles.
Vehicle Status in the App - Is often greyed out, typically if the car hasn’t been used for a day or two. Once it is greyed out, I can still communicate with the car for a few days (e.g. make the lights flash from the app) and the status comes back, but any longer and the car goes offline altogether. The dealer investigated but can’t find anything. Never an issue with the 4S and it was parked in the garage just the same, so it can’t be mobile coverage. Does anyone else have this issue?
Vehicle Tracker - PVTS was a standard fit when I purchased the 4S so just needed activating, but now it’s a (fairly expensive) install.
That apart, this car seems rather jinxed - I’ve had it just over 4 months (and was out of the country for about half of that) and have done about 1200 miles, but hey, first world problems and I’m very fortunate to have this fantastic vehicle:

That apart, this car seems rather jinxed - I’ve had it just over 4 months (and was out of the country for about half of that) and have done about 1200 miles, but hey, first world problems and I’m very fortunate to have this fantastic vehicle:
- On collection: a rear tyre was low on pressure. It turned out to be a very slow leak and has taken multiple trips to the dealer - they kept looking at it and testing it before finally doing the obvious and refitting and re-sealing the tyre and replacing the valve. On my first trip back they suggested it was the cold weather … yeah sure, that corner of the car is always colder than the others
- At 800 miles: a front tyre burst from a pothole, fortunately the wheel was completely undamaged. The car was transported back to the dealer for a new tyre and to check for suspension damage or alignment issues (none
). - On collection after the tyre replacement: the car was washed and they managed to get a bubble of air and water under the PPF on the front bumper, so they’re now arranging for it be replaced (glad I arranged the PPF through the dealer!).
- At 1000 miles: stone chip in the windscreen precisely in driver’s line of sight which then started to crack, so it’s booked in for a new screen.
- A false drop-off charge from Heathrow Airport - I had to report this to the police to get a refund, but pretty sure the car hasn’t been cloned as neither the police or I could get photographic proof from them.
