Dropped off my Taycan early this morning for the brake recall.
The dealership has repeatedly warned me that this could take awhile since they have only a single Taycan tech (and he's just as busy as would be expected).
Fortunately I pulled in just before another Taycan owner pulled in for the same reason, and the queue is by when you arrive.

While gawking about a bit, I came across this puzzler:
https://www.porschehartford.com/exo...e-Taycan-7cc1dee8ac1853bcb17b6e673ca01242.htm
... a used Taycan with only 36 miles!

I was then offered a fine German loaner, but instead I brought my own.
Both the handling and power were quite good.
Range, could have made it home w/o stopping, but was tempted by a convenient refueling station along the way.
Placed used mostly due to older inventory and needing to move it so they mark it as used and CPO it to get the discount and possibly lease them with at 7500 credit now.

Ah, that would make sense -- instead of advertising a discounted new car, they can essentially present it's a discount for a used card.

So I didn't have a chance to gawk about the sales floor when I picked up the car, since I used their drop-off service, which is of course intended for an office or residence.
But I instead requested a park & ride that I had noticed at a bike path entrance, which made the return bike ride far more pleasant, eliminating all the urban riding in Hartford CT.

I was about to write that I didn't notice anything different about the car, but then partway through writing this post ...
... I checked the frunk, and indeed my EVSE now has the new 14-50 pigtail.
Unfortunately, the tech did not take back the old 14-50 pigtail (which is still at the bottom of the frunk) but instead the 5-15 pigtail, which had been inserted in the EVSE at the time.
And which I really need back, so I sure hope they haven't trashed or returned it, or at least that they'll order me a new one.
(Sure L1 charging is absurdly slow, but it has come in handy occasionally, which is why it was still inserted into the EVSE when I arrived at the dealership.)

I assume this is another edition of the ARA4 and ARA5 recalls.
All Taycans made up to something like June 24 are potentially affected. The NTHSA info usually has the last build date.
Remote analysis can confirm a problem exists. Dealers must extract vehicle logs for analysis elsewhere and confirmation of whether the problem exists and if so number of modules to be replaced. Until absence of the short circuit problem confirmed, Porsche advise charging only up to 80%.
My UK recall was actioned efficiently in July. One module was replaced.

How fine, exactly, of a loaner? If it was a base Macan, you were better off on the bike. (Especially if “refueling station” is an euphemism for “pub”. ?)

That was my hunch.
Or a Taycan.
Which is of course awesome. But I already have one of those!
Plus the weather has been been so perfect for biking recently. (Such a treat after the skiing last week. If only we always had this! Must be why so many people move to California? Including my brother in Tahoe…)

The refueling station was a Dunkin Donuts that magically appeared on my route as I was about to eat the one bar I was carrying in my bike jersey.
Had some nice outdoor seating too.
And a sesame bagel is a special treat for me given our daughter’s sesame allergy.
(I’m nervous about eating those even in my car, since those seeds get everywhere.)

Back to the recall, the service advisor called me this morning in response to my text about the incorrectly confiscated pigtail.
Their sole Taycan tech was out today so the SA had no idea what I was talking about.
I tried using a laptop charger as an analogy, with a brick that can take different pigtails to plug into foreign vs domestic outlets.
He agreed that Porsche will want to receive the recalled 14-50 pigtail (which I still have) not the 5-15 pigtail (which the tech mistakenly confiscated).
To be continued…

I get the feeling that the Porsche Tax is not just a means of imposing premium pricing on Porsche owners, but also a mentality among both Porsche and its dealerships of doing everything in the most overengineered and expensive manner.
Even just focusing solely on the EVSE pigtail:
  1. The $600 check was delivered not via USPS for 73 cents, or with the add'l charge for certified or registered or whatever, but via FedEx.
  2. Swapping out the pigtails is not via a tight & secure yet simple fit as on our BMW EVSE, but instead via a far more complex latching system.
  3. Although I repeatedly told the dealer I'd be totally fine with having my original 5-15 pigtail mailed to me (after it was mistakenly taken back by their sole Taycan tech as part of the EVSE recall) upon which I would mail back to them the recalled 14-50 pigtail (which was mistakenly left in my frunk when the new 14-50 pigtail was installed), they sent an employee on a two-hour roundtrip in a Macan for the swap.

Oh, and although General Amherst does have municipalities named after him in four of the original thirteen colonies for his accomplishments in the North American Campaign of the Seven Years War (known rather parochially here as the French and Indian War, after which we rather ungratefully refused to help pay the bill for the Crown's protection during that war since we no longer needed the Crow's protection from aforementioned French and Indians), CT does not have an Amherst (I live in MA), and I'm pretty sure no state has a Rudy Filed Rd (I live on Moody Field Rd), all of which is somewhat ironic since they did spell my surname correctly (which is almost never spelled correctly).
