Anyone swapped a steering wheel over?

I have an Alcantara wheel to go on my car, will swap everthing. The new wheel is heated, as is mine but doesnt appear to have a heating switch, just a couple wires where the switch would be. Are the switches easy to swap over as well?

So in the photo there is the heating wires at the bottom, surely there must be a way of swapping the button over from my ecisting wheel, anyone?

Trying to install myself sport chrono. I got the mode added, can switch via PCM, but mode switcher which I added to my steering wheel - does not react. It lights up, but nothing beyond.

Any ideas if wiring inside steering wheel different in sport chrono/non SC items?

The control module seem to be the same part number, but its not clear about wiring. Any ideas ?

I can't be sure but I suspect the module in the wheel gets programmed for the car's features - so I'm not surprised at your findings. When I swapped my wheel but kept the donor wheel's control box I got several warnings of disabled features - which cleared when I replaced the box with the one from my original wheel.

That makes sense since from what I found in parts catalogue - wiring and module are the same

Now to get it working I’m curious which subsystem responsible for steering wheel controls

So, I’ve finally got round to buying a brand new second hand wheel, with the plan to get re covered by Jack Royal (uk) in oem race tex style Alcantara.

The wheel I’ve bought has the oem carbon trim and neodyme and is also heated. I dont have heating currently.



First q is, is are all the wheels the same thickness or is race tex thicker? The re trim can make the wheel thicker?

Second q, so if I strip the wheel down of the inner modules to avoid coding all will be good when I swop over? Jack Royal charge £20 to remove the plastics but may be worth it to avoid me breaking the clips on the carbon trim?

Finally got round to getting the wheel re trimmed by jack royal (uk). Very happy. Looks mint. My car is crayon so decided to go with stitching/ band to match.

Ordered a XZN Triple Square Spline Bit Socket Set with a selection of bits but believe it to be the m12 I need to remove the main bolt to remove the wheel.

Also, removed the module from this wheel with the 5 or 6 connectors. Fairly nerve racking this bit trying not to pull on the wiring and damage it but all the tabs are out!

Just as a FYI, I used to have an alcantara steering wheel in my V8 Defender and I hated it after 1 year. It was a pain to clean, it starts losing the nice feel to it, and after 3 years I wanted to get rid of it in place of a leather one because it looked out of place. It was a standard OEM option.

My CPO came with a RaceTex steering wheel and I almost decided to pass on it due to my concern with your experience. It's grown on me over the two months I've had the car. I am doing a light cleaning (just water with a microfiber) every two or three weeks and I hope that will delay those things.

Yes, aware of the maintenance aspect, but the look and feel outweighs it for me.

Sorry in advance if this has already been covered in this thread.
I’ve got a 2020 4S, my steering wheel doesn’t have the jog dial on it for setting sport and sport plus. If I was to get a wheel with the jog dial would I have the use of it or would it need coding?

I did it and I'm delighted with the result; it feels much better in the hands. But it still represents a fair amount of work.
