Yep, washed my key in the laundry last night. Still works!

Add to this thread when you too join the clean key club!
22 years ago I accidentally washed my cellphone in the laundry. I was a chemistry professor at the time, so I put it in a chamber in the lab and cycled between vacuum and dry nitrogen gas. Worked like a charm. Now I'm in the satellite industry and we have thermal vacuum chambers at work, but alas our cellphones and Taycan keys are highly water resistant.

We have Turo cars we rent out and the keys are constantly taking a bath in a hotel pool or the ocean. We now deliver the cars to the guests with the key in a water resistant pelican case to protect the electronics. Key replacements are costly and a shitty way for our guests to end their vacation.

Welcome to membership :)

I just dried it off and it was fine. It actually didn't seem to get any water inside, but it's pretty easy to open it to be sure.

This is not official advice and you take it at your own risk but what I would do personally:
  • Follow the instructions for opening it to change the battery. If it seems like moisture hasn't gotten in there, you're done. Otherwise remove the battery and discard.
  • Blot it dry with paper towels.
  • Consider blotting it also with isopropryl which dries quickly and will help clean off any washer/soap residue.
  • Replace with fresh battery
  • Never give it a second thought
