You can find the charging costs under account/ Charging Services in the MyPorsche app. And yes both Tesla and Ionity with Porsche Charging service charge only for kWh. Did your dealer not inform you about this

I only charged my car once at Porsche showroom, and it cost me £10.50 for 11Kwh for 16min. I sent couple of emails and answer was there is service charges. Attached is my itemised invoice. I can see on Ionity there is not service charge, so Thanks I will go and try that.

As someone said "it is what it is, enjoy what we bought" . I agree with that, however in my case because I had 7 years worth of free charge (accumulated a bad habit )it will take time to get used to it.

I do now believe EV is a scam and we should have choice in the future of ICE, EV or may be Hydrogen.
EV is not “a scam” just because your free supply of electricity ended. (Let’s skip over the fact that at no point in this conversation you mentioned emissions.) Just curious, if you became FormerExTeslaDriver, would you still get “free charge”?

Around here (different country), my residential rate is ~12c/kWh, and on the road it gets up to 42-45. Most of it comes from hydro, and i’ll take that at even double the price.

There is no free charging deal from Porsche in the UK, you pay from day 1 though there is a discount at Ionity.

My domestic charging is around £0.34 iirc though my solar cells help in summer.
On the road charging is around £0.79 where I have to stop. There is a £0.31 price at Ionity but I have never driven anywhere near any of their chargers so a moot point for me.

The OP stated their 7 years of free electricity ended when they ostensibly became ExTeslaDriver. With my half-clever quip about becoming FormerExTeslaDriver, I meant to ask if Tesla still offers free electricity with their cars. (And the next step would have been if the “scam” resolution stands in that case.)

I'm able to make a fair comparison between ICE and EV as I previously owned a Panamera TurboS with the same performances as the Taycan 4S.
On long drives, mainly on highways, the Panamera required a full tank (100l) for 700 kms, currently 200 euros or 0.3€ per km.
With the Taycan and the same way of driving, I charge to 100% at home (0.12€ per KWh) and perform 3 charges from 20% to 80% for 15€ to 30€ each. On average 700 kms requires 70€ or 0.1€ per km.

If I consider both cars for commuting, then the benefit of the Taycan is obviously way higher. Charging at home costs 8€ for 350kms while the Panamera would have cost 100€ for the same distance.

Yearly, I estimate the savings to 3200€ for 15,000 kms.

Tesla offered to transfer my free charge over to new car but in UK only model 3 and Y are available in right hand. Tesla is a common car now, hence I decided to go for something different and Taycan is a good choice, fantastic to drive, great quality. However it could do with better technology in areas of app, connectivity etc which will improve in time as did Tesla over the years.
I have been the early adopter of EV so have been doing my bit for the environment long before when everyone else still thinking about it.

This post is purely to shed light on real running cost. As I was pointed out to Ionity where you pay far less then any other chargers so it is somewhat a good news. Only issue is we don’t have many ionity stations yet.

My scam comments were purely about how you are invoiced and it’s not transparent.

After reading this thread I can’t believe nobody has mentioned OVO Drive anytime. When I first got my Taycan in May they were offering car charge rates at £0.10 at any time of the day with no negative impact on the cost of household electricity use, they have recently dropped this cost to £0.07 (actually 0.067p per kw)

i charge the car at any time of the day, simply plug it in and have my “Drive Anytime” app set to “charge asap” and it simply charges straight away with no pauses etc. The app tells me the car is costing me 2.37p per mile, I don’t think there is an ICE car on the planet that compares to that!

Another fan of Ovo charge anytime. I use a compatible Indra pro charger linked to OVO. Sometimes it pauses the charge to wait for a better time to charge (but will always make sure you’re charged for your ‘ready by’ time), but mostly it charges as soon as plugged in.
Only elec going into your car is 7p per KWH, and your daytime rate is not increased unlike octopus etc. Great for those who don’t want to run their washer/dryers etc overnight!

If you are using Porsche Charging service, with your card or the app, it is transparent. I have no idea about charging rates outside of these, but any other roaming card can be very expensive.. `Apart from Ionity you will be charged for the kWh plus a time based fee. The station will most likely tell you both kWh and time when you stop charging.

When I first got charge anytime I used to set a “ready by” time, but now I just leave it as “charge asap” and it always charges the car straight away without stopping

Does Ionity only charge 30P and not any service charges? if they don't then its cheap for on the go charge.
My analysis are purely to understand and shed some light on this, I do have solar energy at work so in summer I probably charge for free.
This was last week 15 euro for 45 kWh in 12 minutes with Porsche charging service. Same day but at a slower not Ionity 150 kW charger only delivering 75 kw needing 41 minutes and had an additional price per minute cost more than double for 16 kWh more charge.

Thanks for pointing towards ovo, I ran a quote, it is attractive, the down side is you will get expensive off peak energy. I checked with British Gas they offer similar deals however their night rate is 8p in general . All want you to have a smart meter.

I should look into it though there were rumours you couldn’t have it if you have solar cells on the old SIT scheme, which I have.

You’re looking only at the cost of energy without looking at total costs, specifically maintenance on the ICE which is easily quantified. When you factor that part, you’re looking at further costs per mile using the ICE for long distance driving.

This topic may have been covered before, looking for your comments. Also correct me if I am miss calculating.
This is the first time since I have been converted to use EV 7 years ago I have done this calculation. Reason for not doing it as I never paid for charge on Tesla so never knew what it cost to charge.
so here are the figures, these figure didn’t take into account high purchase cost and massive depreciation. Yes there 25% tax advantage and no road tax.

so here we go,
Fuel cost £1.44/litter £6.66/gallon (UK)
Ice car average 33mpg so cost 20p/mile

my data in Taycan

Ave 2.0m/KWH
If I charge at peak hour @ 36p /kwh it cost me 18p/mile to use. Advantage of 2p from Ice ?
If I charge off peak @ 16p/kwh it costs 8p /mile
Now if I had to charge at public or even Pershore charger it costs almost 88p/kwh so 44p/mile this will be a loss of 22p/mile

so it’s cheaper to use Ice on a long distance journey then my Taycan.

am I right ?

during a recent trip to London, I paid only 30p/kWh at Ionity fast charging with the Porsche Charging card, without any issue nor delay.
makes it a lot cheaper than with my `Porsche 911 on unleaded!
