It may just be me but native voice activation in my GTS ST is simply 'pants'!

My previous 4S worked to an extent but never 'on it' but now I have an irrelevant piece of tech in my shiny new motor.

I have never come across a piece of tech which is so poorly implemented and unreliable - it can't be this bad surely?

I have had no success with even the simplest of commands: 'Hey Porsche, what time is it?'

Hey Google / Hey Siri are almost flawless in operation but not much use for controlling car functions native to the PCM unfortunately.

So, what am I doing wrong (I have every option enabled, good online connectivity and so on) - I'm determined not to go to the dealership at this point?

This may not be obvious (it wasn't for me at first), but are you waiting after "Hey Porsche" until it replies with "What can I do for you?", before you ask it "what time is it?". It takes a while for that reply to come back by the way, so get comfy while waiting, it's primitive tech, no Apple Siri, Google, or even Tesla.

That said, I have not had much luck with it, even after waiting. I don't use it - takes longer to do anything via voice than looking through the menus yourself, and it most of the time it doesn't help at all, at best saying it doesn't understand, at worse doing something unintended (usually messing up the navigation).

I have waited but to no avail

I may brush up my German and try conversing that way - feels like it hasn't been set to recognise English at all other than 'Hey, Porsche'.

If you have HUD, let me know if you ever manage to get it to turn the HUD on or off, and if so, what sweet words have you used. I've tried almost any combination of words to no avail.

PS> With Apple CarPlay, Siri works relatively well. It cannot control car functions, but neither can Hey Porsche.

There appears to be no on-board processing of the voice – it all gets sent out to a external API – which is just doomed to be slow.

I really feel that both the speech and hand-writing recognition features are something that demo'd well internally in Porsche back in 2018 and they haven't touched it since. While there are plenty of providers of cloud-based speech recognition – getting someone to provide the tech that could run on-board the PCM computer is probably a lot trickier.

Not that this helps either, but I do find it funny:

(I have never bothered with voice operation myself, not even Siri. Too much irritation with all the misses.)

Now imagine us, non native English speakers :headbang:
I can decently communicate with Siri (even if I couldnt pronaunce “Evanescence” and “Mandylion” in the right way), but Hey Porsche is useless.
Sometimes it even starts by itself….

Is there any voice learning, or other learning (even AI) going on?

I am sure one of my other cars learned your voice and preferences over time.....and improved the longer I had it.

I must admit, my most common type of sentences in the Taycan are along the lines of.........

'why don't you just listen to what I'm saying you feckin idiot. I hardly ever ask you to do anything, then when I do ask, you completely balls it up. Go back to sleep you lazy get, I'll do it myself!'

I don't have a HUD (pointless gimmick IMHO) and Hey Porsche can control AC, music, NAV etc (or it did in my T4S).

Other than it randomly turning on, I have never used it. In my BMW iX, it would come on all the time, and I would tell it to “shut up” it usually turned off. Apparently the Germans are not good at voice recognition software.

My car when asked to go to the dealer repeats the destination as Porsch Beaverton.
