I have been away from my 2023 Taycan for five weeks. Going back tomorrow. Never thought to put on trickle charger.
If dead when I get there, what do you recommend?
And, of course, what trickle charger should I get?
Thanks in advance. Have learned my lesson!

No trickle charger needed. Just leave your 120V or 240V AC charger set to 60% SOC and the HV battery will keep the 13.5V battery topped up.
I have been doing this for years and leaving my vehicle in the garage for as long as a month with never any issues.
Just don’t charge above 80% if you’re leaving it for weeks at that SOC. That’s why I keep it at 60% and then the day before I return I change the SOC target to 80% or 85% unless I’m planning to need a full charge the day I return then I set it to 100%.

And if one does not have a charger in the garage?
The point that @Gino is making is that you do not need to have L2 charger, you can just use the one that came with the car and use L1 charger 120V that plugs into a regular outlet. I never thought of this as a solution as I have L2 home charger but I never left it more than a month without using the car. However, how can we confirm that when L1 120V is plugged in that in fact keeps 12V topped up from HV battery.

Let me clarify. What if there is NO external power available?
Then just charge the car to a meaningful state of charge (50%+) before you leave it sitting for a long time.

It will top up the 12v battery by using the HV battery whenever it gets below a certain voltage. You don't need to worry about it.

I'd say worry about it if you're going to leave it for over a year.

Yes, before I used the 120V Porsche charger I did leave the vehicle for over a month unplugged with SOC at 60% so it would stay above 50% SOC to insure the 13.5V battery would stay topped up.
It not only maintained the 13.5V battery but I monitored the SOC percentage every week for all 4 weeks and it only dropped about 2% to 58%SOC after 4 weeks which was likely due to me constantly checking the SOC through the app which kept waking up the car and draining the battery a little bit each time.
Make sure the cabin temperature is not set to heat or cool the vehicle each morning since this will cause significant drain on the HV battery that could drop the SOC below 50% where the HV battery will no longer keep the 13.5v battery maintained.

This is not true, the 12V battery will get topped up literally until the HV battery has nothing left in it anymore apart from the bottom buffer and the car goes into safety shutdown.

No electronics in the car can function without 12V.

I just read the Porsche Service bulletin 2003.1 “Parking or Storage the Taycan”dated March 14th, 2022 which my dealer gave me telling me to keep the vehicle at 50% SOC minimum but in reading the bulletin it states 20%:

Follow the instructions detailed above, with the following exception:

1. Check the high-voltage battery at least every three months and ensure it never falls below 20%.

Recharge the vehicle if necessary.

Instructions for leaving the vehicle parked or in storage for a period of up to 3 months:

1. 2. 3. Charge the main HV “traction” battery to between 20 and 50% before parking or storage

Inflate tires to minimize flat spots during storage: 51 to 58 psi (3.5 to 4.0 bar) at 68 °F (20 °C)

Place the vehicle in Park and use the central display to deactivate the electric parking brake

I have attached Porsche Bulletin 2003.1 referring to Parking & Storage of Taycan dated March 14th, 2022

Yes, 20% good enough for storage according to the TSB.
This does not mean it magically stops charging the 12V battery below 20% or below any percentage. It will do that until you hit 0% on the HV battery and the whole car is shut down.

Also the TSB in fact tells you not to charge the HV battery over 50% for medium term storage, the opposite of what your clueless dealer told you, but that's par for the course.

For long term storage you probably want it a little higher.

Thanks everyone for their input. What got me worried was I couldn’t communicate with the car with my MY PORSCHE app. I thought this meant that a dead battery caused that. Turns out all I had to do was delete the app from my phone and reinstall it and I was able to communicate with my car right away. I had already started the car up I knew there was no dead battery. So it was an afterthought.

I believe you should use a trickle charger. My battery died one time and it was a pita. I think a 5 amp charger is required.
