Hey guys so I had my car since Dec 22 but unfortunately it was at the dealer(battery issue- red error. Happened 3 times) 3 months out of the 8 months of ownership. Porsche approved the buy back lemon(car already paid off when purchased) but they also gave me another option. They offered 17k for me to keep the car. I was thinking to buy a 911 but I also love the taycan. Just wanted to get your opinion ehat you guys would do.

If you take the 17k, will they lemon the title? I’d see what the car is worth, maybe take the 17k and sell to carvana or similar. But if they lemon your title, that would take the value and not be worth 17k

Good point. I should ask that question but to my understanding it would only be a lemon title if the manufacturer actually buys the car back but I should I confirm. Thanks for the insight. As for taking the 17k and selling it to a 3rd party, I think its better for me to actually sell the vehicle back to porsche since I will be recoup the extra warranty I purchased through the dealership. But I love your insight. Thanks again!

I’d order a new Taycan.

The Taycan is a great car and there’s no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I get it that you’re spooked, but shit happens and it’s unlikely what you experienced will happen again. That said, I can’t argue against a 911, if you’re willing to wait a year or more.

I had a similar situation over the brake issue on my car. I ended up taking the money and keeping the car and am happy with that. I would have had to replace it with another every day electric car and while I could kind of get with a Mach E GT or a Polestar for half the price, I knew I'd miss the Taycan

I think that I would agree with taking the 'refund' and purchasing a 911. I have had my 2021 Taycan for almost 2.5 years and it is problem free (other than the Porsche recalls). Effectively, nothing wrong with the car, but after reading the Forum for almost 3 years there are enough problems that could/may crop up once my warranty expires and I am guessing that those repairs (if they happen) are going to be pretty expensive.......................but a better reason...................I miss driving a 911. Don't get me wrong, the Taycan is an amazing awesome car, but it is no 911.

It seems like majority people prefer to get 911. Thanks for the input.

Were you able to negotiate and get extended warranty?

First question is: did have any reason to believe that they fixed the issue? Does it currently have a new battery? If it continues to happen, will they continue to attempt to repair it?

If yes, Personally, I would take the 17K and buy an extended warranty (assuming they won't offer it up-front) and pocket the difference. However, I think the real calculation depends on your personal value of time + effort. For some people (probably in this forum) 17K is meaningless and don't want to be put out because they are billing 500/hour and can't go without their preferred car for any meaningful amount of time. For others, 17K is the difference between fulfilling a life-long dream of driving the perfect Porsche or having to settle for less.

TLDR: figure out your opportunity cost and time value of money. :)
