I’ve got questions!! Where’s my car?? Where’s my finance quotes??

You have set yourself up here!
Hi Kevin,

For anything finance and delivery date related I would recommend speaking to your sales person.

We are still running with limited staff at the dealership but it has been promising with the new cars that are being delivered from PCGB to the dealership. You'll love it when it comes.

Hello everyone!

My name is Rob and I'm a Porsche Pro from Porsche Centre Chester (UK),

I have been with the brand for over a year now but been in the motor industry since I was 18.

You may recognize me from producing the Mobile Charger Connect video, yes I'm that guy :D

I'll try and help if i can with any queries that you may have reference the Taycan and upcoming models but you may be surprised the first time we see a car is normally from the spy shots such as the Taycan ST.....

If you have any questions drop me a message.

Thanks :)
Will you give an honest review of the rear camera ? or will you sit on the fence?

we all believe its a recycled Nokia camera from the mid 90s
do you believe it can be sorted with software updates or would it be hardware?

Pfft good luck with that! I’ve had two quotes, both with the wrong figures and have been waiting 3 weeks for a new one.

I’ll be even more disappointed if I find out the GFV and APR has changed since I last requested as I’m reading on here.

No issue with the sales and the correspondence I’ve had with Josh has been great, but the finance side is not what I’d expect. No returned calls or emails is rude in my opinion when purchasing a 150k car

Yeah my car has been delayed 5 times and was due at the dealer last Wednesday and then surprise it has been picked for a so called Quality Check. Does that mean it is a lemon and how long does a quality check take? Have not heard a thing and probably won’t next week either

Hi Dan,

Which camera are you talking about the Surround view rear camera or the standard rear camera?

it needs sorting out

Rob waiting for a reply. Is the car I ordered nearly 10 months ago a lemon? Is the quality check standard or just the fact mine has been dropped from a great height or in a river somewhere? I am cancelling on Monday if Porsche do not get their are I. To gear and ordering an environment killing 911. Have they really nailed this EV position or is it just shit?

Hi Austrian,

We have cars that get picked at random for QC's it can be for many different reasons, I very much doubt that it is due to you getting a Lemon, there was a documentary on the Taycan production on youtube from WELT, it's a great watch if you haven't seen it.

Also another thing could be to check the quality level as the factory was shut for quite awhile i personally wouldn't worry, 911 vs Taycan, i'd rather have a Taycan being honest.

Hi there,
My partner and I own a Bentley Continental V8 and a Panamera Hybrid.
I'm ordering a Taycan this week and it will be my third Porsche. Still in a bit of a confusion wether I should order a high spec 4s or a low spec Turbo though! Hopefully whichever I order will be with us before the end of the year!

On Monday I will cancel and wait until they get the Taycan right it is obviously not ready for the general public. 10 months still not delivered I could have engineered, built and flown the NASA space shuttle to the moon in this time!!!

i think it depends what you want the car for, what options you are looking to add And how your financing

the Turbo makes massive sense of you are doing PCP and would have added some of the standard turbo spec on a 4s (full leather, Met paint, sports seats, bigger wheels, better brakes and LED headlights) as the turbo residual is higher the monthly payments are not too far apart

I personally had a 4s on order but swapped to a turbo once I found a build slot as I wanted the faster car and had a better standard spec

unfortunately due to delays in my car going to to build freeze I had time to keep adding options and ended up spending a fortune !!

For those who are debating whether to purchase a Taycan I'd like to share some "new owner" thoughts (for reference - I bought a Taycan 4S, Carrera White Metallic, 21" Mission-E all weather wheels, Panormic Roof, Performance Battery Plus (93.4kWh), Configuation Code - PLA4PNX9),

  • Driving Experience - This car is the best I've ever driven in so many categories: acceleration, handling, programmable driving modes that really work, advanced technology (a few bugs of course), and it's so gorgeous that people regularly stop me on the street all the time to check it out.
  • Panoramic Roof - I wasn't sure I'd like this, but I love it! The heat transmission is completely unnoticeable when driving, and even after the car has been in the sun for a while it cools down right away. Also, this option gives me an extra 2-3 inches of headroom in the front and back making the car seem larger than I expected (I'm 6 ft 1 inch tall so this matters ).
  • Range - The larger battery is worth every penny. The maximum range fully charged is 240-250 miles. If my wife and I take a short road trip on a weekend we don't even charge the car along the way for a two day trip (more on charging below).
  • Wheels - Contrary to some comments on this site, the Mission-E wheels are super attractive and I get comments from other drivers all the time. The only downside is a very low sidewall tire profile on the 21 inch version so special care has to be taken when parking.
  • Answers to Common Questions - The Porsche Taycan is 16.3 feet long. Its curb weight ranges from 4,777 to 5,132 pounds, depending on how it's configured. Also, the 0 to 60 mph time for a Taycan 4S is 3.8 seconds (although I've also read 2.6 somewhere), and is rated at 560 horsepower. Most impressive is the pure torque when you stomp on the "gas" and the fact that ("Yes Victoria, there is a Santa Claus") there are two gears. You find that second gear in rapid acceleration and its a kick.
  • PCM- I've found bugs in the PCM software, but nothing to make me regret the purchase. As an example, sometimes the Park Assist systems may stop working. However, I find that by turning off the car, getting out, closing the door, and coming back, it starts working again. I wish there was a "restart" option for the PCM, but I haven't discovered it yet.
    • ISSUE - Perhaps a bigger issue is the amount of time it takes for PCM to initiate when you start the car. Somehow it seems like a full minute goes by before it is fully up and running. You can see this by connecting your iPhone and measuring how long it takes for the car to get around to recognizing the phone. I personally try to wait for the car to fully startup before driving, but this is not my nature .
  • Visibility & Park Assist - Personally I don't care for the perspective view that is standard on ParkAssist. I find the distortion distracting instead of helpful, so I find myself taking it slowly when backing up, and trying to get cues from my side view mirrors and the ParkAssist. On the positive side, the visibility through the side windows is much better than the Lexus I was driving before, and I even find that the rear window is useable, though narrow. If Porsche would make the cameras views more natural I think it would be a big plus for the car. Bottom line - Take it slow when backing up.
  • WiFi Connectivity - While there are instructions for connecting to the cellular network provided by Porsche, in practice this doesn't appear to work in the US. I think this is due the fact that we don't have a cellular plan option available to sign up for, but in other countries it seems they do. However, since I'm using an iPhone and connected to Apple CarPlay this isn't really an issue for me - but I found it confusing to be reading instructions on how to setup the Hot Spot.
  • Connectivity Confusion -- What does it mean when one of the links in the Connection Status window of Porsche Connect is showing RED? As far as I can tell, it is not an issue, but RED always signals an issue to me so I wish I understood it better. [UPDATE - This last RED link goes away if I connect my iPhone to the Taycan WiFi, treating it as a Hotspot. When I do that the connection turns GREEN, but I also get the message on my phone that there is no Internet connectivity since at this time Porsche is not allowing US customers to browse the Internet on the car's LTE connection.]
  • Porsche Taycan Members Say Hello Here! Screenshot 2020-07-20 at 9.55.36 PM
  • iPhone Apps Needed - I ended up downloading Porsche Connect, ChargingAmerica, ABRP, and PlugShare. ChargingAmerica accepts the Porsche login credentials, but you have to find the Login page by clicking on the 3 parallel lines in the upper left corner. It is helpful to first "accept" the offer of the free 3-year charging on the Porsche Connect website (login.porsche.com) so that when you login to ChargingAmerica the system sees you already have a charging package.
  • Charging at Home - I bought the "Mobile Charger Connect" plus the "Porsche Charging Dock" for my garage. I installed the 220V/50A NEMA connector (ground on top) 4 feet from the ground and that was a perfect height. Unfortunately, when I opened the box with the dock there were no instructions and I ended up downloading some from the Internet. It turns out that in one of the many multi-language owner's guides, there were instructions under the EN tab - I missed that.
  • Charging Rate - I get the same rate as advertised - roughly 10% of battery capacity for 1 hour of charging at 220V/50A. My only hiccup the first time was not knowing that I had to push the button in the lighted ring first to unlock the handle before pulling the handle out. The "quick look" manual doesn't mention this, but the owners manual does. Looking on the bright side, this experience taught me how to do an emergency release of the vehicle plug, which I'm unexpectedly glad to know.
  • Charging on the Road - I've had mixed results with Charging America Stations in a 100 mile radius of Seattle. Most work and work well, but 30% have charger issues. When calling the helpline number from the charging station the staff pick up right away and try to be helpful by restarting the station. I've had this work, but sometimes not work. I'm speculating a lot here, but I think there is a chance that the charger plugs are damaged somehow so that they don't allow for communication with the computer in the car on all the signal lines. Whether this is damage caused by vandalism, wear & tear, or weather, I have no idea. I hope that this is not a huge problem going forward, but as more and more people drive electric cars I expect the situation to improve. There is a certain amount of adventure in taking an electric car on the road, and for longer trips I'm definitely bringing the Mobile Charger Connect with me in its travel case.
  • Timers, Profiles & Maximum Charge - Initially I thought I should set a charging limit of 85%. Only after reading many online posts did I discover that Porsche reserves 12% of the battery uncharged anyway, making this cautionary step unnecessary. In addition, I really couldn't figure out the value of either the Timer or Profile functionality for a typical US driver. Perhaps some of you have rates that vary by time of day, but I don't have that, and so the need for a Timer or Profile is not really apparent to me. However, if any of you reading this have insights for me please share them since I'm willing to learn.
  • Avoiding a Discharged 12v Battery - If you read the post by @louv (Don Breaks his Taycan - The Saga of the 12v Battery) you'll find that there may be a bug in the PCM that allows your 12V battery to discharge if you attempt to change a Timer or Profile from the Porsche Connect app while the car is hooked up to the charger. This is yet another reason for me not to be playing around with Timers & Profiles. I'm following this one and anxious to see how the problem is resolved.
    • After reading the post mentioned above I purchased a 14.6V, 20A AC-to-DC Charger (Alligator) for 12V LiFePO4 Batteries (BPC-1520C) for $99.99 from Bioenno Power, and learned how to access the front trunk if the 12V battery dies.
  • Access to Useful Info - I recommend downloading the "Good to Know" Porsche App, and tailoring it with bookmarks to make some info easier to find. For example, I bookmarked some sections I'd like easy & quick access to including: 12-volt battery, Car Care, ParkAssist, Charging the high-voltage battery. If you need to know how to deal with a dead battery AND your handbook is in a locked car with a dead battery, you will appreciate this app.

I love learning, and the journey of experiencing new technologies, and I hope this post is of use to someone considering a Taycan, or to a new owner. Apologies for the length!

This is truly the best car I've ever driven
