All,

I'm looking for mobile paint repair recommendations in the San Jose CA area. We had a minor (3") "oops" between a swing gate and the rear bumper cover and while removing the bumper cover to do a full respray is probably the best option, that would involve a lot of headache since I have HOV stickers and waiting another 6 months to replace them would really suck. I used to use a company (L&M Mobile car Touchup) that did a decent job on my GTR, MB 550 and Buick Enclave but apparently Tesla bought them to do field repairs exclusively and now I'm looking for someone else. I did a Yelp search and found "The Paint Doctor" with good reviews, but a lot of the images he shows are from Hondas and Teslas. Anyone here use him or have another recommendation?

I too am in San Jose and I haven’t seen you around. Chalk GTS, I would have noticed. I had similar scapes from a piece of metal on the freeway from a truck. I took my Carrera White GTS to Michael & Co. on Lincoln Ave. near San Carlos Ave. Talk to Geddy and tell him I sent you. They have been painting my cars for 15 years. They do excellent paint work.
If you have to replace the stickers i recommend applying the new ones to a peel and stick reusable material or use paint protection film to secure it instead of sticking it to the bumper. There are a bunch of You Tube videos on that topic.
Good luck!

Thanks for the referral. I'll check them out.

I actually have the HOV stickers on custom cut PPF for them, but I think once you remove the PPF the stickers get stretched and show the VOID text or turn silver making them invalid so I'd have to apply to the DMV for replacements, it took them 6 months to get me the originals, so I'm trying to avoid that since I use the carpool lane on 87 frequently. I'm hoping that repainting the entire bumper is a last resort though. I've had work done with worse scratches on other cars from mobile repair people who can just paint the area with the damage, and since this is small I shouldn't need to have any of the parts removed to fix it. I hope. Maybe someone else has experience with the Paint Doctor... if not, guess I'll be the first and will post pics of before and after incase anyone else needs the reference.

If the Paint Doctor can't repair it or doesn't do a good job, then I guess a respray of the bumper cover is the next choice.

I'll keep an eye out for a White GTS and wave if I see you. I've seen a few other Chalk Taycans around San Jose and Los Gatos, but I think only 1 other GTS and that one didn't have the black door handles or the exterior carbon fiber so mine is probably more easily identified.

Sounds good Richard. I am interested to see the pics of it fixed. We are in the Thousand Oaks neighborhood between Branham and Almaden Expressway. I'm on 87 all the time using the Capitol exit. 87 is so much nicer now that they paved it. I tried to avoid it before for my Taycan's sake, so many pot holes before. Stevens Creek Porsche quoted me $2,100.00 for an alignment. Haha I still can't believe that number.

Hey Richard, did you ever get your car repaired? Curious if you have a referral and pics? I actually just got a VG 4S and have a similar issue (from previous owner) but it's 6" long. Looking for options...

Steve's creek Porsche did some dent repair on my 2020 Taycan Turbo - they did a great job and price was reasonable.

might want to run by and get a quote - tell Mike S. or Ron I sent you.

Due to a PTO and some scheduling changes, I didn't get the repair started until this past Friday. He needs to come back later this week to polish out some overspray on our BMW X7 (I had 2 cars worked on) and to knock down some "nibs" on the Taycan, but I have to say that so far I'm very happy with the results.

I've attached the before and after to show that there's no indentation and from 2 feet away it looks perfect. When I look really close I can see that there's a slight orange peel finish and the previously mentioned "nibs", but a little polish should resolve both of these and he has assured me that this will be almost perfect when he's done. I'll know more on Wednesday when he comes back to finish. Color match is spot on and it has the same thick paint appearance.

This cost about $500 and was done at my house, so I'm really happy not to have to have the bumper removed and resprayed (worrying about panel gaps and replacing the HOV lane stickers). I'll post final pics on Wednesday when part 2 is done.

Thanks for sharing. When you’re all done, would you mind sharing contact info? I’d like to see if they can fix mine as well

looks like I won't be able to report the final results until Friday. The paint guy has a shoulder injury and can't come today. More on Friday.

Happy to report that he came back and has finished the repairs. He needed about 30 mins to do paint correction to blend in the repaired area with the original paint. I have to say, I can't tell anything ever happened. I'm really happy with the results! I took close-ups so please scrutinize to your heart's content. It looks as good as "factory" to me.

The company's name is "The Paint Doctor", the owner is Kirk and he did the work and is nice to talk to about paint care and cleaning stuff. his number is 408-640-6579. What he quoted for me is based on the damage being on a bumper, so the price I mentioned above applies to my situation any may not apply to yours. I'm impressed enough with the repairs he did on the X7 and the Taycan that he'll be the first person I call the next time one of the cars gets serious paint damage.

>> I don't seem to be able to upload any pics right now. Not sure what's wrong. I'll upload as soon as I can, but take my word, the finish is perfect and there is no sign of where the repair happened.

If you have him do a repair, please post the before and after. My experience was really positive and looking at his Yelp pages, it looks like my results are not unique, but it would be good for others to have unbiased/independent assessments of his work. I don't want to sound like a barker for him, lol.
