Porsche Wall Charger for the win! I wouldn’t mess with used Tesla Wall Chargers - I love mine - but new w/warranty counts for a A LOT - and you never know how well treated used stuff from eBay has been during it’s lifetime.

Porsche Wall Charger and don’t look back - great price, great feature set, known support.
If Tesla was stil selling the Gen1/Gen2 Wall Chargers I'd recommend them as new w/warranty - the Gen2 Wall Charger for $500 was one of the best EVSE's going - 15-100 amp adjustable, 25ft cord option, sharable up to 4 chargers sharing a single breaker - for $500 it was high quality, functional, and very very affordable.

The Gen3 Wall Charger currently being sold is a good charger but maximum AMPs a 60 (breaker) 48 (charge rate) - but they can be networked/shared up to 16 units - but the 60 amp limit is less interesting to me given other options.

The ClipperCreek or Porsche Wall charger is a great choice - with an edge to ClipperCreek HCS80 since it supports share2 - which allows two HCS 80s to share a single 80 amp breaker - the HCS100 is a great 100 amp charger, but lacks share2 functionality…

this is why the porsche charger at $1500 with adjustable amps is a great hardwired choice.

The return of the EVSE is not going well.

It arrived at Wattzilla on Friday around noon last week. I was told 24 hour turn around. I wasn’t expecting it to be worked in over the weekend, but by Tuesday I hadn’t heard anything.

So I emailed the guy and he said be know more the next day.

Still nothing by Thursday, so I emailed again. No response yet.

I hope I get it back. ?

So Wattzilla's response to the failed EVSE is send it back, we will look at it, vs. immediate refund or replacement?

They said “it needs a shop visit” and they would “have it turned around in 24 hours”.

That and an address to send it to was about it.

They’ve had it a solid week now and still no response from my last email yesterday.

I’m now wishing I hadn’t sent it back and instead repaired it myself. I initially didn’t want to mess up the warranty though in case it went badly (also why I didn’t replace the #6 wire for the feed). But now that I see the warranty/service is kind of junk…

Oh well. I know better next time. Just hope I get it back at all right now.

No response as of yesterday evening so I emailed again and they finally replied that it’s fixed. But that was it. No mention of what was wrong or if/when it’s getting showed back.

So, I asked both of those questions.

The only response was that I’d have shipping info this morning.

Late afternoon, I received a shipping notification. Should be back here Friday.

So, the “24 hour” turn around was 11 days, with very little communication, all of which required promoting on my part, sometimes more than once.

EVSE arrived today. Installed right away and now I’m off of the poverty charging. ?

But it took way to long to correct the issue and responses and feedback during the process were mostly very poor. I’ll be repairing myself next time.

Glad you are not having to charge like us unwashed masses.
Did you get your original EVSE back? What did they repair? What would you repair?

Me too! That was gross. I took a shower after every charge.

Did you get your original EVSE back?
I assume. I know the feed wires were the same. Hard to tell on the rest.

What did they repair?
Don’t know. I asked and they didn’t answer. All part of the great customer service experience.

What would you repair?
Someone else mentioned that they think it’s based on open EVSE and I think they’re right based on the display. So, I’d probably start with the main board and go from there.

Otherwise, I would probably just make a control board from something. Haven’t decided what yet (depends on how much I want to do myself). I kind of wanted to do that anyway for fun.

I also wanted to make a web-based dashboard that recorded voltage and current and costs and what not. I may still do that anyway.
