As with many high-tech gadgets the manufacturers would much rather you buy the new one - so giving old models new features is bad for business, even if technically it's easy to do. Sponsored
It's bad for business if the newer car doesn't bring anything new except software, but J1.2 is a big step forward from J1 so I don't see owners of J1 not upgrading only because of software.

J1.2 will come in 4 years. Surely that will be an even bigger update than what J1 II brought now with the facelift.

I just Hope they do. I mean the whole charging experience has to be improved In any way (I am just Talking the Software part in the car). And as a developer I can say that is not rocket science, merely some really small UI improvements and a little bit down where the magic happens. Small amount of work that has already been done, just rolling it out. As already mentioned just the right thing to do for a variety of reasons.

Maybe, but don't hold your breath. As with many high-tech gadgets the manufacturers would much rather you buy the new one - so giving old models new features is bad for business, even if technically it's easy to do.
Problem for them is, people already aren't buying the new one.

Residuals have tanked. Many reasons, but I guarantee closure of updates on J1 will not help.

Phones are updated for longer... But even they weren't, they're way less than 1% of the price of a Taycan

Yeah, its plain stupid not pushing the updates to older model because they want us to buy the newer car. I bet my next EV is some Xpeng or Nio.

Porsche AG picks a hardware/software stack for a new car. Starts developing for it. And then in parallel starts to immediately undermine it by considering (and sometimes starting to) develop five different incompatible alternative directions.

Despite enjoying over 60 years of iterative development on the 911 – the same approach to software – which the rest of the world has adopted – seems to elude them.

Unfortunately, "Made in Germany" is often not a good thing when it comes to software and digital products. The countries prowess in mechanical engineering does not translate. Anyone ever enjoyed using anything made by SAP(*) ?

(*) Caveat: SAP acquired Concur. Concur acquired TripIt. TripIt is a great product that I use for my business travel – and we use to plan all our road-trips.

The software chaos continues

6000 employees and all they can manage is the PCM? My god... they should all be jobless

Well, I guess they will be and they know it
"It's more or less the end of Cariad" GOOD! You did a piss poor job with a 12b budget and 6000 people.

This is not a correct assumption.
