I'm new to both EVs and Porsche but the experience so far has been good. Equal acceleration to my RS5 and nearly equal handling (on the street at least), a gorgeous interior and view out the front, always being in the right gear, no driveline lash, never mis-timing a shift, no turbo lag, no gas stations. No other EV now or on the near horizon held the same interest for me.

I bought two years old and also hope to keep it beyond the original warranty.

Question: Why is there no option to retain vehicle and buy an extended warranty?

Observation: The wording of these options is strange and difficult to understand. Is that because of differences between the US and other parts of the world? It almost seems like the words "lease" and "warranty" are interchangeable in this poll, where as they are not interchangeable in real life in the US.

This we will be keeping the Taycan with an extended warranty.

I'm surprised many here are going for it, as extended warranties for other products are generally not a good deal. Would love to hear more about your logic and, if you're willing to share, pricing you've been offered.

I intended to cover a wide array of decision tree options, perhaps I should have been more verbose.
For example:

1) Return/Sell car at Lease/Warranty End - Means:
If you lease, you return the car at lease end. If you purchased the car, you would sell or trade it at warranty end. As far as I know, you can't sell what you don't own as in the case of a lease.

I don't think your post was hard to understand just that you did not include the simple option for people who bought their car with money and would keep it, whether they bought an extended warranty or not.
I have never leased a car or borrowed money to buy one. It seems there are others too...
If I haven't had the money I saved up first.
I have never had a tax benefit from a car - and actually don't as a result see why anybody should

I haven't voted in your poll not because I didn't understand the choices but because there was no relevant choice for me when I read the list, as I pointed out in the first reply.

I haven't asked yet and have never bought an extended warranty before on the basis that if they offer one you don't need it.

With this car, and maybe Porsche in general, the spares prices are so high, and accessibility so poor requiring excessive hours work it only needs one thing to go wrong in the warranty period to pay for it.

I love the car and as long as it doesn't cause me grief in the next couple of years I will keep it years and look at the cost of the extended warranty and judge its value then.

For me, the Taycan was a very uncharacteristic purchase: new (both as in new model and new car), expensive, “to spec”, and non-DIY with regard to repairs. I consider the acquisition price to have been written off on day 1, so an extended warranty (which would also be a first for me) is simply insurance against further expenses - particularly given that non-DIY aspect.

For UK folks, Porsche's extended warranty for apparently ANY Taycan (or Panamera for that matter) is currently £1110/2010/3000 for 1/2/3 years, possibly repeatedly extendable for vehicles up to 15 years old. Of course, associated Ts&Cs are a critical consideration, here's the details-

Just wondering, why is everyone getting a new car after three years? Is it because in UK and USA cars are mostly leased? Or is it warranty? Or..?

Perhaps because the poll is worded in such a way that mostly only people who lease have a valid option to choose?

Very poorly worded poll full of false premises. As they say in the software world, "garbage in, garbage out". Imagine a poll which would ask:

"Why will you never sell your Taycan?"
(a) because I love it to death
(b) because I bought it under a fake identity which I can no longer access
(c) because it exploded into a million pieces and I cannot find them all
(d) because I hated it so much I had it crushed

The outcome would be majority respondents choosing (a). Internet headline from this would read something like this "95% of polled Taycan owners say they will never sell their Taycans because they love the car to death". See the problem with a bad poll question and options?

I was on the fence with the warranty but did it anyway (3 years for around 3200 euro or so if I remember correctly). Then a month later my onboard charger failed. Cost to fix would have been 4k euro so it’s already paid for itself. Plus had a rental car and towing to and from my home.

These cars are getting so advanced, and as it’s new technology for Porsche, there’s a lot that can potentially go wrong. If you plan on keeping the car I would suggest doing it.

At around the 3 year mark it will be time to start the search for a replacement for my 2023. My, strictly personal, replacement time pretty much corresponds to the expiration of the basic warranty. I've had no issues with my car that would preclude another Porsche but technology on the EV side of the car needs to progress significantly. PCM needs to improve, efficiency/range needs to improve, OTA updates need to become a real thing, connecting to the house WiFi needs to be enabled,... and the big one is NACS accessibility (since a dramatic improvement in and expansion of EA seems unlikely). The car is certainly no bargain and to justify this kind of expenditure again it needs to improve. Yeah, I know it "drives" very well but it is not a great EV. Love my car but expect a lot more in order to do another one.

Yeah. My first Cross Turismo winter just started. Unfortunately was driving a loaner instead. So no idea how the Cross Turismo handles snow. But at least i have the Macan experience as baseline. If the Cross Turismo does handle well then hard press to find a replacement for it. It will be very hard to convince me to buy a pure SUV unless something quirky and well designed. Before snow days, i would imagine replacing it with 911 or next Boxter, etc. Today is hard to say.

Cash buyer here. I normally switch cars at about 3 years, so the poll applies to me even though I'm not a leasor, so no issues there.
I will happily drive the taycan until something considerably more advanced comes out and makes it worth the financial commitment (while also fitting my lifestyle). Maybe the solid-state battery or maybe the kids move out and it finally makes sense to get a 911 GT3 T?. If that car doesn't come out then I will extend the warranty and wait till something does.

Good point. I have reached out to my dealer in Southern California and happy to share what I learn about costs with members here, although in your case they may not be comparable even with a currency conversion! Maybe we should start another thread devoted to extended warranty pricing?

Same here. Regardless whether you have originally purchased or leased the car, extending the warranty for as long as you keep the car seems a no brainer to me. With a yearly cost of roughly 1200 Euro/year in Europe it even looks like a bargain. Even a small problem on a Taycan might set you back more than that and if you have a slightly more serious problem it will be a multiple of that.

As extended warranties are essentially insurance products, does it not make you wonder how insurance companies make money on this? You would think the insurer would be losing money and stop selling this product, or more typically start adding coverage exclusions. Since it hasn't happened yet, I suspect on average they make money on the extended warranty.
