may have been mentioned already but if you have one of the compatible EVSEs (ones shown here) then the Octopus intelligent Go tariff can control the ESVE and not the car, so you don't need Porsche Connect active

Alas I have a Hypervolt version 2, which isn’t approved yet - although I think they’re working on it

When I last did it for my BMW M2 it cost £99 for the year.

The Taycan was £269 in August.

Same thing - just doesn't work properly in the Porsche, but costs more.

Mine was £89 plus an additional £30 for speed cameras.

I remember it "feeling" more expensive at the time.

I think this type of reasoning is exactly why Porsche charge such a ludicrous fee for a service that does not deliver.

Like everything they sell? Everything they sell has an high price. Why aren’t we talking about all the prices (the higher ones) and are we debating the cheapest one?

My Porsche is unique because it has an active subscription to Porsche Connect

I don't buy things from Porsche because they cost a lot. I buy them for their (supposedly) engineering excellence, their motorsport heritage and their history of making great cars to drive. Not so much their flaky software with a bad reputation for connection issues.

Agree and disagree. Yes most hardware options are great and price doesn’t matter. But most options are heavily Porsche taxed without heritage being the reason. Think about mirror options, sound options, parking systems etc. All a lot more expensive than $300 and we all bought those options without hesitation.

Value is what customers are willing to pay for a good or service. Price is always set to maximize the profit. I know it's not what a lot of people want to hear, but if enough people don't renew, the price should drop. If everyone subscribes, the price should rise. Extreme example: if Porsche could fine one Taycan customer to pay $100M per year for Porsche Connect, they should set the price to $100M for all Taycans, knowing there will only be one subscriber. As number of Taycan grows, the prices will change too.

Tesla gives their cars free basic connectivity (pre-heat, locate car, maps, OTA) because it provides Tesla with telemetry on the cars, which is very valuable. I suspect Porsche telemetry is too primitive to provide enough value to the company to offset the cellular connectivity costs, so they don't care if cars go offline.

I guess we do not know if Porsche collects a lot of data from the cars or not. I suspect they do since one of the latest recalls is some software to monitor the battery for run away events. I do not expect they can require the owners to need to subscribe to Connect for them to get the data?

I assume they just cut a link to the owner accessing whatever data they collect?

The vehicle is always connected, but to use the connection for your benefits is what's included in Porsche Connect.

Porsche needs to pay for the cellular data account of the car. I would not be surprised if they just deactivate the eSIM in the car if you don't pay for service.
Anyone with expired Porsche Connect, does you car show connected? What is the Cellular Connection status showing?

Side note, in order for your battery data to be collected by Porsche, you have to enable both anonymous and personal data collection on the Privacy PCM menu. Without it, they are not allowed to collect any information from the car together with the car's VIN or other identifiable information. So if you did not enable personal data collection, they cannot even tell you that your battery is about to catch on fire because that would be admitting they violated GDPR. It's probably cheaper to settle on a car fire than deal with GDPR penalties.
