Taycan sales down 50%. That's huge but Panamera sales cratered too. This may well be because Chinese manufactures are gaining ground and market share at the expense of Porsches and others as EV sales overall are growing albeit slowly. EU and US can ban or put tariff on Chinese auto manufactures but they will lose their markets in other regions like South America or Asia to BYD, Nio and others. Auto manufacturing and sales is evolving and we are in interesting times to witness this once in a life-time change.

Well, I would suggest the low priced EV didn’t and don’t help the transition to EV. Very low range (80 to 100 miles for my friend Mini for example… she hire a petrol car for her holidays…) and even more the poor ride quality of cheap EVs together with expensive recharge prices…if the standard was Taycan we would all convert to Evs in a Heart bit.
BYD is to Taycan what a Nissan qashqai is to a 911.

Covered elsewhere.

Tariffs on Chinese EVs = trade war but will curtail dumping of government subsidised EVs as has been the trend of late.

Macan switch to Macan EV is a key factor and Panamera sales have always being low (surprised its still made given the Taycan matches on size).

Taycan hasn't helped during the transition as much as they might have hoped and the Macan EV is basically stealing sales.

If you were shopping for a hi end EV and read that Taycan has had 7 recalls, battery may catch on fire and btw don’t charge over 80% would you spend $150K on a taycan? Plus every time the car goes in for repair expect to the dealer to keep it over 3 weeks. I for one intend my next car to be either mercedes or BMW , my last BMW never had one recall notice and I kept it for 6 years.

My last Porsche (981 S) had no recall in 12 years from new. My wife's Macan T has been flawless.

Taycan has been an aberration for sure but as I keep telling people the warranty is worth its weight in gold and Porsche will always come through.

I don't think mine is likely to catch fire nor am I limited to 80% (yet). Any EV battery could catch fire but percentage wise there are more ICE fires than EV ones (nothing to brag about).

As angry as I have been at times I doubt I will jump ship totally.

I agree, I am looking to buy a Taycan but after reading about MY25, I plan to buy that one once it starts appearing more as CPO. The recalls and the horror stories about replacement costs for battery to panoramic roof etc. has made me sit on the side. I am hopeful, MY25 may have all the kinks worked out so will wait for more reviews to start coming in and let depreciation work its way thru before I jump in.

Well, let's compare how BYD treated their only battery recall:

Porsche Taycan Porsche Sales 1728763723296-he

BYD fully replaced the batteries and the tray of all recalled cars.

Meanwhile, Taycan has been known for water ingress in the batteries for quite a while, and according to 3rd party services on the other forum, 99% of red circle of death are due to water ingress. The CEO himself has acknowledged that it is an issue, and the cause of 3 taycans bursting on fire in China.

How many full battery replacement did Porsche do due to water ingress? How many battery trays did Porsche redesign so water ingress is a non-issue? Officially 0, as they didn't do a recall for it yet.

I find it funny how people compare Porsche to the lowly BYD, yet the lowly company seem to build much more well built EVs, and go above and beyond when they mess up, in a timely manner at that. Porsche seems to not be what people thought it was anymore...

I think people mistakingly think Chinese brands won't catchup to Porsche in terms of driving mechanics...

But they are, they are catching up very fast: https://www.byd.com/us/news-list/YANGWANG-Launched-the-U9-Priced-at-1-68-Million-RMB.html

If traditional brands are doing bad right now, if China retaliates with tarifs, they will do VERY bad... And much worse in 2-3 years when these Chinese brands come to europe
