I had no PPF on my black Cayenne and I picked up a few ugly chips on the hood over the years. It bugged me, but it absolutely made no difference at trade in ?‍♂

Now I have PPF on the front half and ceramic on the rest thanks to the previous owner… that was a good deal ???

I have had 2 Black Panamera.
The first didn't have PPF. The full front was full of rock chips after 70,000 miles due to high speed driving on autobahns. Respray the full front was an option after a while but this doesn't erase the everyday frustration looking at the car's hood when parked in the garage.
The 2nd was fully wrapped with PPF. The front was chip free after the same mileage, same driving style.
Ok the light reflexion thru the PPF might show some aberrations but for the front face, it's a must have. Self healing is impressive and very mild polishing is even possible.
Glad my next to come Taycan is PPF wrapped from factory.
I do think modern cars should have plastic coated paint from factory as part as the body coating deposition process. Tech should provide solutions for a "bullet proof" paint. I don't get why few improvement have been made in this domain.

I just skimmed the responses and surprised that I didn't see anyone comment on how easy the car is to clean with these coatings. I didn't own the car for much time without PPF/ceramic but it seems I never need to wash it. Dirt seems to bounce right off. It always looks clean!
Crayon/Chalk exterior is the best for dirt… hardly need to wash the thing. Porsche obviously knows this and that’s why it costs extra. ?

It seems to be a very labor-intensive process at the moment and rather difficult to automate at anything remotely resembling the level of quality that a skilled and trained installer can deliver.

I should probably note that this opinion is based on absolutely nothing but looking at a ton of pictures of (good and bad) PPF installs while deciding where to have mine done.

Rather than repeat my responses in all the other threads asking the same question, I'll pose a question- how will the impact on resale value of blemished paintwork compare with the cost cost of PPF? That's not a loaded question- I can't even answer it for my own scenario (I do have PPF). And even with that answered, there's the matter of how much of an issue would those blemishes be for you?
I’ve never PPF’d and I’ve never once had a buyer comment on the paint at all. And when I’ve sold back to dealers, they haven’t even bothered to look at the paint closely.

For me, I think its a hit or miss for impact on resale value, you get it if you can't stand seeing rock chips or varius light scratches.

I had to repair some hail damage and they had to take off the PPF then rePPF. So make sure you have the proper insurance coverage if do you get PPF.

PPF was an absolute MUST HAVE for me since they are building a new highway out in front of where I live. As a result there are little pebbles all over the road just waiting to become paint removing projectiles. The PPF has been worth its weight in gold for me so far. I'd still probably get it even without the construction war zone but that's because I hate seeing paint chips when I wash my cars.

I didn't PPF the front of my first Taycan and regretted it. So when I got a 2021 4s I did PPF on the front-end and mirrors, and then Ceramic on the whole body. Personally, I'm very happy with this decision, and on a car in the $100k+ price range it seems like a small investment.

On the other hand, I have the highest respect for those on the forum who simply enjoy driving the car and don't fuss over dings an scratches. It's not my thing, but good on them!

I had the whole car PPF'ed, though it was due to "mandatory" dealership add-ons where I am at. "eye roll".

Now looking back, it has saved me from paintwork once in 1.5 years of ownership.

I think it's worth it.

I've also had some spots of the PPF that tore off from unknown punctures, about 1 cm in diameter, and were easily fixed with a squared-out piece of new ppf.

I haven't owned a car in a decade and don't plan on changing this daily driver until I don't know when, so this PPF will go a long way.

Lots of great advice, much appreciated all. On balance i think I’ll go with the PPF. I’m in spain and the percussive parking here can be an issue..

As a number of posters have said 'it depends'. It does have some value from a resale perspective in terms of preventing a repaint. Definitely, if you're the kind of person that frets over chips and minor dents, then get PPF and you will have peace of mind driving and parking. In three years, I've had a couple rocks hit the hood and fender that would have required repaint and I've had a parking lot incident that definitely would have scratched the car badly. No damage whatsoever, but did need to replace the hood PPF once and fender once. Ceramic is amazing in terms of keeping the car and wheels clean. No advantage in terms of protection though. And as has been said before, DO NOT have the dealer do the PPF/Ceramic. Find the highest quality specialist near you, and have them do the job. I had full body PPF for $9K (including paint 'correction' that was really amazing) and 4 coats of ceramic uv cured for $2.5K, with a refresh each year for a few hundred $'s. My car looks just as good as the day I bought it 3 years ago. Absolutely worth every penny IMO.

On a car as expensive as the Taycan, yes, it's essential. At the very least, do the front end. It's a small cost in relation to the cost of the vehicle. Further, if you plan on keeping the vehicle for many years, then why not? I should cost no more than 1500 to 2000 EUR to do the front end.
