I just happened to me, heading to Porsche for replacement on Wednesday. I’m with USAA and they use Safelight to handle claim. Told them wanted OEM and that is was noise insulated. Of course they said they would only pay for fair and reasonable costs. Think that means I’m screwed but we will see. Dealer said it was expensive around 5k.
By "they use Safelight to handle claim" you mean they would not pay if you have the replacement supplied by and installed by Porsche dealer?

No, I can have anyone replace the glass and use OEM vs generic. They just say if I do that then they will only pay for 'fair and reasonable costs'. Any charge above that amount is on me to pay.

I’d say it’s fair and reasonable to want all of your vehicle systems to function properly.

I'm interested in what your final result is from USAA.

Don't fall for that BS. The insurer is trying to steer you away from the OEM glass because it cost more than the generic. They must honor your request to install OEM parts. If OEM glass is not installed, you probably will not be able to calibrate the LKA, Headlight automation and emergency brake assist. If USAA gives you are hard time, move up to a supervisor and explain that Safelite cannot calibrate the safety system cameras and you have to go to Porsche. That calibration cost is around $1,500. Explain that if you have to generic glass, it will likely fail and have to be removed as was the case in my replacement. All in they performed two windshield installs and two calibrations. They tried to save on the glass cost and wound up spending a small fortune. BTW, the OEM glass part cost is $1,358 and the Safelite generic is $543.
The bottom line - go to the Porsche dealer, it is a crap shoot any other way. I am somewhat of an expert now after four windshields.

Get another quote from other dealers. Had mine just replaced for $3,500 through a dealer. They are taking your for a ride.

So USAA came through without any issues. Uploaded the invoice from Porsche and received payment same day to my bank account. Only had to pay the 250 deductible. Would give them perfect marks for this experience.

Total cost 5,019.55

Glass 1,614.09
Primer 228.72
Adhesive Film 86.26
Subtotal 1956.07

Labor 2,880.00

Misc 62.37

This ^^^ - No wonder my car insurance is going up 25% on my June anniversary renewal. This replace repair should not have cost more than $3,500, including sales tax.

Was your glass sound insulated? Not that it probably matters but i have lka, night vision, innodrive etc, basically all options so maybe more to align.

I would love to see your invoice. My glass is noise insulated. As far as I know the calibration cost is around $1550, irrespective of options. Don't get me wrong the whole calibration thing is a scam from PCNA. It takes these tech's 5 hours to calibrate using their PIWIS. Give me a break - I am so done with being gouged by these people. I will gladly bend over to keep my GT3 running - a Taycan - not so much.

Calibration was $500 for my vehicle through Porsche. Your dealer just took advantage of the situation. That labor cost is astronomical. My car has noise and temp glass with innodrive. Just had mine done about a month ago for $3,500 with tax.

I have the worst luck with windshields, they're always cracking and chipping on me.

Didn't want to risk it with the Taycan so I got the Exoshield windshield film put on soon after taking delivery. It has saved me from at least 2 incidents where I'm sure is I didn't have it, I would have had at least a chip to deal with.

I was directed to Safelite to replace the windshield and did not realize they were going to try an after market windshield. After waiting more than 5 hours they told me it could not be recalibrated. They then ordered the OEM windshield and a week later I went back. It took another 6 hours to get it calibrated but finally it worked. total price: 1500 dollars (it was 900 for the aftermarket).

Are you indicating that Safelight was able to calibrate the windshield camera? I find this to be a stroke of luck as it can only be calibrated with a PIWIS and that as you know is proprietary to Porsche. I was told by Safelight initially that sometimes it will work with their modules, I was not so lucky.

They had to call a technician that remoted into the computers (I believe they said they were from AsTech) from location unknown and completed the calibration. I agree I was lucky because I didn't think they were going to be able to do it and had already made plans to go the dealer (which I was able to cancel)
