I’ve just purchased 3 years Porsche extended warranty for £3k.

However, I decided to check online if anyone else offers extended warranty. I came across ALA (who also offer GAP) and their quote is £737.92 for 3 years (platinum, higher labour rate, and claim limit at the car market rate).

I don’t know if they are equivalent warranties, but should I cancel the Porsche warranty and go with the third party?

Check their respective terms, equivalence, standing and reputation.
There’s not much EV expertise outside main dealers currently. Will the warranty provider pay main dealer labour rates?

I’ve wondered what the price difference is between the retail labour rate and the rate(s) charged for recall, manufacturers warranty work, and Porsche extended warranty work. Similarly, the difference in retail and internal parts prices. Given the monopolies I doubt dealers would need to discount to 3rd party warranty providers.

And given the amount of re-work, whether Taycan has netted any profit for Porsche, or is R&D.

I've just taken the Porsche one for a year - as I will probably move onto something else.

I really wouldn't feel safe owning a Taycan without a Porsche warranty.

I could see some 3rd party taking it off to a backstreet garage if something fails, as I just don't see how they could afford to take it to main dealer given Porsche service/parts prices for the premium quoted.
I may be wrong.

If it was another car, I would consider 3rd party. But a Taycan needs as much financial 'back-up' as you can possibly get.

Assuming it's a case of when, not if things go wrong with a Taycan (and it's never cheap) it's definitely worth paying the price for the Porsche warranty imo.

I just had a quick look into the ALA plan.....

Two labour rates - 60/£100 pH.

As mentioned above, if Porsche rates can be £280ph, there will be a large shortfall in anything which needs to done at a main dealer (just about everything).

I’ve always found Porsche handling of warranty claims fair. You may need to dig your heels in sometimes, but good will is usually reciprocated. More than most, Taycan owners are due good will.

I have Endurace on my Cayenne S and they decline most things...even though they should cover it. That said, they have covered enough to cover my costs. Porsche extended warranty was more than double the cost as I recall.

Thanks, I was wondering what would happen if there was a difference.

ALA offer GAP insurance with tyre cover for £1,000 for 3 years (5 tyre replacements), which sounds okay as a single tyre starts from £300 and I’ve had to replace 3 tyres due to punctures during my 3 years of ownership.

Although I probably wouldn't buy their warranty fir a Taycan, I have always used them for Gap inc Wheel / Tyre cover.
Never claimed thankfully.

They always had a good reputation on the various car forums.

Our 2020 Taycan Turbo S warranty expires in less than two weeks. We Added a 96-month, 60,000-mile, $100 deductible plan from our Porsche Beaverton salesman (Gregg Rennord) for $4,387. Months are from the new vehicle delivery date. We chose 96 moths to align with the HV battery warranty. Failure of one major electronic or mechanical device will almost certainly cost more to repair at retail than the insurance cost.

We will add this protection to our incoming Macan turbo electric because the insurance cost will be much higher four years from now.

Here are the prices quoted, the cost per month and mile are my calculations:

I’m sticking with the Porsche warranty based on the replies, but still considering the GAP and tyre insurance - as you say, the Taycan needs a lot of financial help.

Pricing:
  • £1,170 for 1 year
  • £2,110 for 2 years
