For the Taycan, there is an unsubstantiated claim suggesting AC charging at rates under 7.6 kW might allow a cell in the Taycan battery array to overheat because of the design of the on-board AC charger. If true, this has the potential to cause the Taycan battery management system to automatically take one or more cells permanently offline in the array thus reducing the vehicle maximum driving range. Porsche has stated they are investigating the claim, but as of May 2022 the implication for Taycan owners is they may wish to avoid AC charging at less than 7.6 kW when practical.
link, source, reference to this assertion?

Most "public" L2 charging stations are less than 7.2 kW in North America (6 kW for example).

I'd really really like to know where you heard this.

I'd suggest getting a different non-Porsche EV Charger (EVSE) - PMCC has a lot of problems and it's not required to charge your Porsche - any North American J-1772 EVSE will do the trick…there are many many many choices (wall mounted and mobile)

getting Porsche to support an EVSE is likely asking a Bear not to sh*t in the woods…

https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/t...uide-to-the-porsche-evse-pmc-pmcc-pwcc.13886/

top choices for reasonable money are:
  • Tesla Universal Wall Charger
  • ChargePoint Flex
  • WallBox
  • enphase/clippercreek
  • Autel
you can keep the PMCC as a mobile EVSE for when you're away from home on a road trip…

good luck!

@daveo4EV , well aware already have one Tesla wall connector installed (j1772) and installing second one now. However I still want to see if anyone was able to fix the PMCC. My plan is having one in the car and another one connected to 120V as it is easier to connect when I part the car for few days in the garage and I am not on the rush to charge it.

if you have Tesla Wall Chargers it's pretty easy to have them "share" an existing circuit - so you could charge two cars at once and not have to both with the 120V circuit

ok if you just want it to work (I understand that) I'm of no help as I've not recovered a PMCC unit from having no internet to having internet.

good luck.

Thanks! Yeah, no need to share I have separate line for the second charger. It just bugs me that isn't working. I really don't have to fix it, but engineer in me doesn't let it go...

@daveo4EV Success!!! I was able to get password from Porsche USA. (lost the envelope) got into the web application portal and was able to flash the firmware to 3031. From there, I was able to add my profile and connect the charger to my wifi and to my porsche app. So far shows up and can pull the data. Let see how long that last for.
