Greetings all,

Over the last year, my windshield has been beaten to heck. I was looking at Safelite to get a quote for replacement and the cost was a whopping $520 for a full replacement. This seems EXTREMELY low and I wanted to get a sanity check from you guys. I'm sure they don't use OEM windshields so that's not a concern, but I know Porsche charges over $3k for the same service. Thoughts?

I am literally having mine done now. It is $2000 roughly. I have not had good luck at Safelite. Things like this it’s dealer only, if anything goes wrong it’s on them. Aftermarket companies can deny they did something wrong, like not hooking up anntennas, and send you to the dealership to have them look at it. At that point you should have just gone to the dealer in the first place.

+1. Had a truly dismal experience with Safelite last year (diff car) and frankly will avoid like the plague pt forward.

Either way that price is indeed mad low and highly suspect, just from labor cost alone , which begs the question as to how professional an install it would be and prob denial if anything not up to snuff later!

Fair point. I haven’t had a windshield replaced on a newer car before, only on my old analog 996 so that makes sense.

Never let Safelite touch your car. Poor quality glass won't hold up, will chip easy and the installation is often very poorly completed, resulting in wind noise, water leaks and even structural integrity issues. No different than a 911 owner not taking his car to Jiffy Lube. You bought a highly engineered and very expensive German performance car. It deserves, and needs, to be kept up with quality parts and properly trained professionals.

I have used Safelite before on my M4 and was given the option to use their glass (Fuyao), or OEM.

Netflix has a documentary on Fuyao lol. If anyone is interested, it's called American Factory.

I had Safelite do a rear window on my Turbo sedan. $1800 for noise/temp glass. Six months later took a stone to the windshield and they said they would not recalibrate…. Go to the dealer. Would have been $2200 + recalibration from Porsche of $695. Took it to another glass shop down here who is authorized by a number of insurers and they did it all for $1600.

So it sounds like the best course of action would be to find an authorized glass shop. Thank you all for the input.

Recently had a BMW IX windshield replaced . Argued with insurance - Geico wanted me to go to Safelite but they ultimately accepted the $4700 price tag from the dealer . The BMW IX had a special insulated glass windshield - as do some Taycans like the Turbo and GTS or if you optioned it on other Taycans. There is also additional molding parts that were very expensive to insure the noise insulating seal. Also if you have ADAS systems that have cameras behind the Mirror those need to be recalibrated and that is expensive . Dealer seems to have done a great Job.

I jiust went through this in Dec. Painful!I had a deep chip that could not be repaired. I got about the same quote from Safelite. Decided to go with Porsche since my car was new, 3000 miles. Porsche charged me $4,770. $2,669 for windshield, $1,624 for alignment and calibration of safety. equipment, $250 for removal and installation windshield, remainder for misc. and taxes. My insurance paid $2,134, I had $1,000 deductible so I ate $2,,636. Not sure which path to take next time

Yikes...$5k is an insane amount of money for a doggone windshield, no matter how you slice it.
