My dealer seems to think that it will be the end of the decade...I certainly hope not.
It’s standard management practice to ignore new product releases in favor of what they have to sell today.

Never, NEVER, trust someone who has product to sell to tell you what is really going on.

I replaced my 2021 Cayman GTS 4.0 PDK with a 2023 Taycan GTS Sport Turismo and don’t regret it one bit. As I’m writing this, I’m actually at the track with it and am having great fun! :)
Once you get used to the instant acceleration of the Taycan it’s impossible to go back to any normal ICE vehicle. My Taycan is in the shop and I have a Macan as a loaner which has decent acceleration but not close to my Taycan but the gas saving mode that shuts down the engine when you stop at a light results in an annoying delay & jerk to take off quickly at a light.
I know you can turn this feature off but then your fuel consumption will suffer badly in stop & go driving.
Once EVs have 400-500 mile then ICE vehicles are just for nostalgia and no longer serious contenders for high performance except for ridiculous high performance vehicles which few can afford and even fewer would choose over a blistering fast EV.

The more relevant question is - Will Porsche survive? The brand has become non-competitive in its second largest market, China. It has become way over priced in its largest market, the US. No new products on the horizon, shrinking sales worldwide and massive capex with little to no ROI. Forced platform and parts integration with VW dilutes the prestige and bespoke proposition. This is a brand that is in serious peril of becoming an OEM that we no longer will recognize.

Hopefully it's retooling for the smaller caymen/boxster ev platform 🤞
While it cannot be ruled out; the 911 factory was retooled in late 2023 to build the 718 EV down the same line as the 911. The hybrid 911 is already going down there – which is why that factory can handle the 400V architecture safely.

Porsche moved the ICE 718 variant out of the 911 factory a few years ago to facilitate this.

Now the Taycan factory – which uses a very flexible (not fixed lines) manufacturing process that Porsche call "Process 4.0" could certainly be made accommodate the 718 EV – but it was never the plan and I don't think that is likely to have changed.

Interesting news coming out of Germany regarding Porsche production in 2026.

The report from SWR states that Taycan production has been paused for a week starting last Friday, May 22, due to weak demand.

Are we witnessing the beginning of the end for our beloved Taycan?
hmmm abandon a major market, raise the prices to be non-competitive, and then surprise there is lower/weak demand?

they've done it to themselves…and they continue to dig the hole they started for them selves…

Not likely.
I deleted the majority of your post in my response, as I don't believe politics or government policy has any place on this or any enthusiast forum. Having said this:
  • I remember when PAG was nothing more than a common parts bin, do you? We still hold the 996 911 as a substandard P-Car, why because of the headlights shared with multiple models. This is prestige dilution - I mentioned it in my post.
  • I have purchased 6 911's, a GT3 and 2 Taycans. Will I ever own another Porsche? The answer is yes under one condition. I win the PCA raffle.
  • Ownership cost is onerous. I purchased a 911 Carrera (new) in 2014 for $86k. It is tough for me to reconcile paying almost double in 2026. It is simply not worth the cost of entry, IMHO. In the Joe Pesci venacular, "Don't get me started" about parts and service costs.
  • Will PAG claw their way out of the mess they created, maybe but I am not hopeful. The culture of the the country has changed. The host governing body (EU) is as corrupt as the day is long in Alaska in the summer. I hold no hope for the future PAG. The only attribute with more weight than ingorance, is arrogance. PAG management has more of both than most.
I truly feel sorry for younger enthusiasts, PAG could have been special. Unfortunately, they went down the proverbial rabbit hole of social engineering. I only hope they find light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately, I will not participate any further. I had my fun and loved every moment over the last 20 years. The cartoon's of my youth always ended with :That's All Folk's" as we fade to black.

I don't believe this statement is in the spirit of your other comment "I don't believe politics or government policy has any place on this or any enthusiast forum" earlier, but at the same time I'd like to address the part about PAG management.

I totally agree this is a management issue. While I don't know their true capabilities, their vision, and their ability to lead , there has been a "reset" recently, which gives me hope. However, changing the direction of a huge manufacturing enterprise is difficult and takes time. Some thoughts on their challenges --

  • Incremental Progress -- I personally am willing to give PAG management time to evolve their product line assuming incremental progress (e.g. a 718 EV in 2026/27).
  • Technology Leadership -- I'd like to see PAG stay true to their technology leadership roots. Make cars that you can track, utilize innovative components, and feature superior craftsmanship and design.
  • Find a Middle Ground on Pricing -- Not every car they sell should be a 6-figure purchase. Just like the Base Taycan, and the Macan, there has to be an option that feels "entry level" to a more or less ordinary buyer in the luxury segment.
  • Software -- It's a brave new world for PAG when it comes to SW. Now that they have stumbled hard, it would be great if they could re-invent the PCM through one of their existing partnerships (i.e., Rivian or Apple), or possibly through another partnership. While I can live with today's PCM, we all know it is the Taycan's weak spot (talking J1.1 here - no experience with J1.2).

Sorry if this doesn't work for everyone, but it works for me. And yeah, God help me, I'm an optimist 😀

Simple answer is "No".

Weak demand doesn't change the fact that the Taycan is the car most other companies measure themselves against, and in spite of our current administration, the drive to EVs is an inexorable trend.

I find the whole ICE vs. EV debate to be humorous. How many ICE 911's will be sold in 2035 once people experience a 718 EV? Come on!

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but isn't the Taycan simply the best performance car (EV or otherwise) that you've ever owned?? Would you trade it for a Tesla? Would you trade it for an ICE 911 (Ok, I know a few have). But NOOOO! Most of us love this car and want to keep driving it. I've seen nothing and heard nothing that says Porsche is abandoning EVs - just that they are slowing down the transition.

Good for them. I think this gives them time to optimize the car around modern battery technology AND high performance motors, suspension, etc.

Guys - If you love your Taycan don't get your underwear in a twist! (or as a millennial would say "Why are you being so extra about this!") The car is a winner and will be around longer than you and I will 😀
I could not agree more with this, and the answer is a resounding "NO" (and like a lot if not most of others on this forum, I've owned two 911 C4s):

"I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but isn't the Taycan simply the best performance car (EV or otherwise) that you've ever owned?? Would you trade it for a Tesla? Would you trade it for an ICE 911 ?"
