What exactly does the Taycan Wifi SSID do for me if I don't subscribe to the HotSpot connectivity?
I believe it will enable me to use OTA updates but then again I thought that was done when I am at home garage and connecting through my Porsche Wall charger (thus via Bluetooth would work).

Is there any reason to enable my iPhone to connect to Taycan SSID if I don't subscribe to their LTE service or whatever cell service they sell.

It’s used for in-car hotspot and Carplay functionality.

Here’s everything WiFi I’m aware of:
  • HotSpot with cellular data uplink if you subscribe to that Feature On Demand. Not supported in all markets.
  • Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto (both use Bluetooth to bootstra then jump to WiFi)
  • Some My Porsche app features (Calendar sync). Limited value IMO.
  • Porsche Track Precision app connectivity if you have Sport Chrono.
It actually does not help with OTA updates, those happen over the cellular data uplink (via Verizon in the USA).

It’s generally not possible to connect the car to your home WiFi network. Except in Russia, where WiFi connects to you:

Thanks for the answers...still a little confused.

Doesn't Carplay/Android/Chrono/others go wireless via Bluetooth? Why wouldn't they use bluetooth? What reason would they connect my phone via WiFi when Bluetooth is available? If my iPhone is connected to Taycan Wifi, won't my iPhone now try to use Taycan for Internet access, which I don't subscribe to? Is there a compelling reason to have my iPhone attach to Taycan Wifi if I don't subscribe to the Verizon subscription service and just communicate via Bluetooth?

Wireless CarPlay and wireless Android Auto both require WiFi for operation. They use Bluetooth to initiate connection but then jump onto the car’s WiFi for main operation. The reason is bandwidth, driving the display, servicing low latency user input and audio input/output. Bluetooth is too brittle and doesn’t have enough bandwidth to serve as the pipe for all that.

If you are only using wireless CarPlay, you don’t even need to go out of your way to join the Taycan’s WiFi SSID, that is all configured transparently when you set up CarPlay.

iOS (iPhones) that are connected to Taycan WiFi and also the phones cellular network has the smarts to know that the WiFi connection is not routing to the external internet.

Therefore you can connect your iPhone to Taycan's internal WiFi network and allow it to access the services @satchurator mentioned without impacting the phones ability to connect to external services via cellular.

Can't speak for Android OS but I'd be surprised if it wasn't similar.
