Doing my first road trip in the Taycan from Gold Coast in Queensland Australia to Albury in NSW, about a 1400 klms trip each way.
I‘m splitting the drive over two days, each day starting with a “Full Tank” as I did today for day one.
Porsche planner suggested two stops today ending at the hotel with 9%.
No problem with the first top up at a county city, Coffs Harbour, left there with 58%.
As I was leaving a Model 3 pulled in to take my spot.
Next stop was 150 ks further on at Port Macquarie.
Big problem, the app for Chargefox would not open, I wasn’t sure what to do next.
Enter the same Model 3 from Coffs Harbour.
Same app, his opened no issue.
So we plugged the lead into my car using his app and account, charged to 70% and I left.
He refused money or coffee.
What a gentleman ?

What app where you using? Im planning a run up to Noosa next week from the Gold Coast and am a bit worried about charging up there. Speaking of Teslas every time I go to the valet parking at Pacific Fair the non TESLA charging bays are always occupied by TESLA's despite there often being empty bays at their own dedicated TESLAs chargers that I cant use :-(

It's an internal DIP switch setting on the Tesla destination chargers that make it Tesla only or not. If you get stuck, it's always worth trying a Tesla only charger – as it might work.

At least here in Europe, I've found that hotels over time tend to switch them over to work with all cars.

At least here in Ireland, hotels have started to notice that Porsche is giving them free chargers and are taking them up on it.

https://www.destination-charging.eu/
I think Tesla did the same over the years, and the hotels gave a free session when you stayed there. But I have stayed at a few hotels in 2021, where they wanted a flat charge of 25 Euros for a charge with the Tesla destination chargers. When I questioned that they looked embarrassed though. In the end I just did not use them.

All of this was a year before the present energy crisis and electricity was cheap then. New situation now of course.

Porsche rules seem to be fairly clear on it: You can charge what you want for use of the chargers, but Porsche vehicles must always be free.

They did indeed. Many have been in place for quite a few years.

Although I didn’t do a lot of hotel stays the last 2 years, unsurprisingly, I have noticed that some sites with Tesla Destination chargers have been replaced with other third party paid solutions. Previously if you asked at reception, and you were a guest you were free to charge at the Tesla chargers.

I don’t know what terms Tesla signed the hotels up to at the time, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s dissimilar to the Porsche terms above. Possibly why some are now getting replaced. I can’t imagine many hotels wantonly gifting 90 kWh of electricity per hotel resident for free these days.

@Manyana thanks for the post. It has been interesting reading about the summer holiday charging bottlenecks along the east coast. I'm currently looking at a May delivery and I've started to explore the charging infrastructure more. It appears we have an impending issue with a lack of infrastructure given EV orders are taking off. Great to see the EV community cares and shares.

Does Chargefox not support Plug & Charge ?
Yes, if the their App connects. It may have been user error although I had no trouble today.
I will get an RFID card as you have suggested previously.
I noticed something else today with the Porsche trip planner; I saw on the nav map that there was a Chargefox charger listed but not selected by the charge planner so I decided to try that one, got there but both machines faulty.
Perhaps that’s why the planner was bypassing them.
I wonder!

I have the Chargefox app which comes with the car.
I also use Evie, which I used in Tarcutta this morning.
I have also signed up with A Better Route Planner which is excellent.
I know there is a charger listed as being in Hastings Street but I don’t know what it is.
Re Pac Fair, that’s weird as the non Tesla bays are Chargepoint which is very expensive so I’ve been told.
The Valet Parking blokes have a free charging card for those Chargepoint bays, maybe that’s what they are doing.

The Hotel we are at in Albury, country NSW, has installed four 22kw AC chargers.
The hotel manager told me the state government paid for the chargers, he paid for the installation which wasn’t much.
It is run by a company called Exploren, their charge is $10 for a session.

Maybe I was lucky yesterday and today, just the hold up at Port Macquarie possibly my fault, today at Goulburn only me, it was 6.45am, and the same at Tarcutta.
