ive just had my 4S into the dealer to look at the sat nav which keeps locking, they have sent me a video showing a hole in the front and damage to the rear battery cover on the underside of the car.

They are saying that it is an advisory item but one needs done in 2 months and 1 in 12 months and have quoted £1300 to swap them over.

Ive declined so i can get my car back while doing my homework but i can buy the original Porsche parts for less than £500 so thinking of getting a local garage to do the work but now Porsche have a log of the issue could it void my warranty when i take it back for a service in September if they notice.

Thanks

Do you know which part numbers you’re having to replace? We have seen so many different shocking prices related to battery covers that $1300 seems cheap now.

1300 is about 74.000 less than the previous case of this was quoted.

1300 is an absolute steal if you ask me.

They need to drop the battery I think, to reseal it, it’s not just a simple cover. So you’ll need a service that can work with HV batteries. Not that many, especially porsche approved ones that allow you to keep your warranty

I would take the 1300 deal. Work is not going to be done for free by anyone, even if the part is 500

That looks like the covers in front and behind the battery cover from what I can see in those photos? The front cover unbolts and sits in slot in the lower front bumper cover from memory. Should be a fairly quick job for anyone to change once the car is up in the air.

I think they would struggle to argue an impact on warranty if you use genuine Porsche parts. You could try looking for an independent Porsche Specialist but any garage with vehicle lifts can change those. Tyre shops unbolt the wheels and refit them surely they can't every job to be restricted to OPCS!

Tbh, one does look fairly damaged. I just got stung for £600 for a replacement front under tray with a tiny hole in, I mean screw size which I was miffed with but as having it’s extended warranty inspection I was rather hands tied.

As said, presuming they are just under trays that can be accessed easily from below just buy an oem part for lots cheaper and get anyone to fit. No warranty impact.

IMO it’s good council for anyone with an older taycan, and possible implications of failed warranty claims for damaged under-trays, get them inspected and replaced at your choice/ convenience / reduced cost in advance of any Porsche inspection/ issue.

I damaged some of those "paperboard" coverings on my Targa. They were easily replaced ($2-300 IIRC). They checked for other damage while replacing and in my case found none.
Be glad you hit these paperboard things and not the battery.

Everyone who has some some proper rural driving (or a hit a few speed bumps) has holes like that in their cardboard-like Taycan undercarriage :)

My OPC said not to bother too much, fix it when you want to. They also know that if we replace the undertray we will just make another hole.

What really DOES matter is the actual battery housing, but that is another story.
