Porsche hasn't been a brand Ive been enthusiastic about, but the Taycan made me find a new appreciation for it.

From my understanding, every model other than 911, is to keep the company making the 911.
The Halo model (GT1, CGT, 918) are R&D for future technology that customers pay a premium for, 718s, Panamera, SUVs are what gives the volume to scale, to give Porsche the huge profits.

Other than 911 & the Halos are there any Porsche models that retain value? What models stay in a collectors garage? Where does Taycan fit?

It's usually the one-off special edition models that retain any value, and typically if preserved to the original state and not driven much. Personally, I don't think it makes sense to purchase a car (to enjoy it) while hoping it goes up in value.

That being said, I don't think something like the Taycan will appreciate in value. Then again, you have used Tesla's selling above MSRP now - so who knows.

Open ended question. Lots of Porsche models retain value. Lots of information to found online.

It wasn't a question of getting any car as an investment, but is every model of Porsche other than Halos & 911 a disposable car?

As far as Teslas here is business opportunity. Lets buy 20 of them new and sell them as used to make a profit. Cars that sell more for used than new are going over MSRP as the dealer.
992 GT3 is 50k minimum over window so used is over MSPR.
Tesla lowers prices to create demand, raises prices when there is more demand (see how many times they lower MY, raised MS)

I suggest the purchase of the three volumes named “Excellence Was Expected” to learn the history behind one of the most successful brands of racecars. No malice in my message. Just pure information. You’ll be amazed knowing that Ferdinand Porsche designed and produced the first EV more than 100 years ago. Or learn why the ignition is on the left side. All elements that make a quick drive to buy milk, so special….

THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE

As part of my appreciation for Porsche was learning many of these nuances.
Also learning more about manufacturing, the business of being an OEM, I understand why Porsche is the most profitable and best operated in the car business.

Yes. Being Italian it’d be easier to talk about Ferrari and Lamborghini, but those are not vehicles you can go food shopping with, and therefore less likely to be appreciated by a non-celebrity or a non-older person. There have been only few Porsche that showed only commercial interest, rather than engineering passion.

IMO Lamborghini is the consumer sports car division of Audi at this point.
Post IPO Ferrari is not the same company and that's not a positive.

Porsche is the only OEM that can balance scale, exclusivity, engineering/R&D and profitablity
Between the racing division, being so profitable and VW backing, Porsche can't be beat. This includes the future with electrification

Of course Pagani is a different story, but those are a niche category
