I was hopeful that WNJ8 would cure some of my complaints about the PCM entertainment woes I've been living with. I am asking about what is considered OK or normal for, let's say, the time it takes to reconnect to and start playing Apple Podcasts where it left off after a restart of the car.

It takes no less than 2 minutes and occasionally as much as 5 minutes to go through several "waiting" stages before audio finally plays.

Is this considered normal or usual?

My 2022 GT3 remembers how to act right in a few seconds after engine start. It's great! The post WNJ8 Taycan, not so much.

Take it back and have it checked.
Maybe I should have mentioned that the PCM has acted this way, or worse, for the past 2 years, ever since delivery. Each of the firmware improvements over the years has made a small improvement, but doesn't "fix" the major frustrations.

I've been bugging my dealer service team and PCNA to no avail.

For instance, the PCM periodically "forgets" or "erases" all of my FM/SiriusXM favorites (and Navigation favorites, but not previous destinations) on a daily or weekly basis. Since WNJ8 on August 11, it has erased favorites twice. Once a week? I suppose that's better than daily.

Additionally, when favorites disappear, it also forgets registration for Apple Podcasts (and, I assume Apple Music) and one needs to come to a complete stop to re-register to get back access.

Additionally, Spotifiy registration doesn't seem to stick and needs re-registered on every restart.

I would really be curious about how long the average USA Taycan operator has to wait for Apple Music or Podcasts to resume play after a return-to-car re-start.

Should I institute a poll?

One thing I have noticed over the years is that the moment when "favorites" are erased seems coincident with a very long wait for Apple Podcasts or Music to resume.

Often, the 3-5 minutes with the circling arrow ends with not resuming Apple content, but failing over to FM Radio. Then, pressing an Apple Icon quickly returns to Apple content, but favorites have disappeared.

It seems like there may be a start-up-process signaling acknowledgement that fails and a hang-up/re-try timer has to expire before the start-up can complete. Sort of a "go on without me" fail safe. That would be either a hardware design issue or a signal path blocked by a physical hardware fault.

Who knows?

Also, the start up time of Navigation can be frustratingly long. On the same order of 2+ (sometimes more) minutes. Makes it difficult to use promptly, like when I want to leave for an unfamiliar destination and don't know which direction to turn out of the driveway. Waiting 2-3 minutes to plan an efficient 15 minute trip is nearly useless. My 2022 GT3T is ready in less than 10 seconds.

My GTS came with latest updates from factory. I use Apple play, USB, and carplay. Music does not play/remember/resume on almost every start of the car, and when it does remember to resume the wait could be 5+ minutes before something plays. Or if it decided to resume Carplay the music starts up as paused and needs to be “play”ed manually.
