I have about 8 months left on the 4 year warranty on my 2020 Taycan and asked my Massachusetts dealer about extension options. The response I got was:

Regarding extending the warranty, there is no extensions of the factory warranty available from Porsche directly. There are options to purchase an extended service contract through a third party. That is something you can inquire about with our finance department.

That seems inconsistent with things I’ve seen on this forum. Bad information, change in Porsche options, or my misunderstanding of what others have been offered?

I assume your dealer is not a Porsche dealer / porsche approved dealer?

Porsche offers up to 15 years of warranty; if you renew it before it expires; otherwise you need to go thorugh their car approval thing before you get the warranty.

My local Porsche dealership recently printed out a “porsche” extended warranty price sheet for my 2020 Taycan. Because my Taycan wasn’t put into service until April 2021, the 4-year warranty ends in April 2025. He hand wrote how many extra years (after the original warranty ends) the new warranty would extend to, and its related cost. He says everything covered in the original applies to the extension. He also mentioned the option to purchase the extension is only valid while the original warranty is still valid, so I have another year to make a decision, but the longer I wait, the more likely the pricing will go up.

Thats not accurate.

I thought my 2020 Taycan in September of 2023. It had 18 months of warranty left. I bought a 5 year extension so I am good till 2028 or 60k miles. It was called the Platinum VSC warranty.

The dealer statement is true. There is no extended factory warranty available from Porsche directly (unless the vehicle is bought used, in which case CPO - which is a warranty - might apply).
The only thing "Porsche" about the Porsche Vehicle Service plan is the Porsche name on the plan and that it is often sold by Porsche dealers.
The Porsche Vehicle Service plan (US) is a third-party plan. It is not an agreement with Porsche.
It is not a warranty.

By any chance did you purchase a CPO Taycan at Porsche?
Those usually include 2 additional years of coverage after the original 4-year warranty ends. If you have 18-months left on the original (March 2025), your 2-year CPO kicks in until immediately after and covers you until March 2027.
Is it possible they sold you a 1 year policy that covers you from March 2027 to March 2028?
If so, that would line up with the price sheet they gave me because the one year covers up 60,000 miles. I told them no need to price me the 1 year, so you can’t see it on my sheet.
Are you able to share what you paid for your policy?
I’m curious to see what the price differences are from state to state.

The response to my inquiry was from a Porsche dealership - Porsche Of Burlington , MA.

That’s correct - it was a CPO with 10k miles on it. I’ll find what they charged me - think it was 4-5k. It’s a 60k 60 months add so it takes me out to 2028.

Thanks for this. Taking my 22 RWD in for 2 year service next month and I plan to inquire about this. It's my daily, I put about 10k/year on it, I'll likely keep it for 7-10 years, and I love my baby.

Well, that explains it. Thanks. I guess I’ll reach out to the finance department as suggested. I’ve enjoyed the vehicle and hope to keep it well after the general warranty expires, though it has not been without issues. On the other hand, most of the extensive time in the shop has been for recalls, updates, and battery cell replacement and the high voltage battery warranty is 8 years. Depending on cost, I’ll have to decide whether the peace of mind of having the service plan is worth it to me.

On the other hand, it's my understanding that the Porsche-endorsed warranty is guaranteed to pay for covered repairs minus your deductible, rather than the buyer having to submit for reimbursement or fight with service, correct?

I bought this for my used, non-CPO 2021 Turbo. Was quoted these exact prices by my local dealer. Called around to other dealers and got what I wanted at a good discount. Shop around… the markup on this program gives the dealer a lot of latitude in what they charge you.

I purchased the extended Porsche Approved Warranty policy for 12 months in August last year at a cost of £1,110.00 for my 2020 Taycan 4S via the Glasgow Porsche Centre, as my original 3 year warranty was just about to expire.

At the end of my lease on a 2020 Taycan 4S, I bought a vehicle protection service protection agreement from Porsche Financial Services. It runs for 84 months/85,000 miles and covers everything except maintenance consumables, and the battery. Of course the high voltage battery is covered separately with an 8 year warranty, which guarantees 75% state of health at the end of 8 years. It has a $250 deductible. So I will be covered until 2030. It is a great vehicle and I plan to keep it until 2030 at a minimum. I have generally kept my vehicles for 10 years, so this is a great deal for me.
